If you want spectacular omnisonic sound, adjustable noise cancellation, and wireless freedom for long gaming sessions or music listening, choose Microsoft Surface Headphones 2; if you need a plug-and-play wired solution specifically optimized for Microsoft Teams calls with a durable build and consistent audio quality, choose PLT HP. This isn't a close call; it is a choice between two fundamentally different approaches to personal audio, where one prioritizes immersive entertainment and the other prioritizes professional communication reliability.
• Microsoft Surface Headphones 2: Delivers up to 20 hours of battery life with 13 levels of adjustable noise cancellation and seamless Bluetooth connectivity, but requires a charged device and lacks a dedicated gaming microphone boom.
• PLT HP (Poly Blackwire 3325): Offers instant plug-and-play reliability via USB-C, certified audio for Microsoft Teams, and a lightweight design that stays secure during long meetings, but relies on a wired connection and passive sound isolation only.
• Choose the Microsoft Surface Headphones 2 if your primary focus is immersive gaming, music production, or traveling without cables.
• Choose the PLT HP if you spend your day in video conferences, need zero-latency audio for work, or prefer a setup that never needs charging before use.
The Microsoft Surface Headphones 2 is engineered for the user who demands immersion and flexibility. Its standout feature is the Omnisonic sound technology, which wraps you in a rich soundscape that feels far more expansive than standard stereo headphones. Whether you are deep into a competitive game where directional audio matters or simply trying to lose yourself in a soundtrack, the dynamic drivers and wide frequency range from 20Hz to 20,000Hz provide a clarity that makes every detail pop. The inclusion of 13 levels of adjustable noise cancellation is particularly powerful for gamers who need to block out household distractions or commuters who want to isolate themselves from the chaos of a train station. Unlike simple on/off switches, this granular control lets you dial in exactly how much ambient sound you want to let in, offering a level of customization that few competitors match.
Comfort is another pillar of this design. With soft, breathable over-ear pads and a lightweight frame weighing just 10.24 ounces, these headphones are built to stay on your head for extended periods. If you are looking for the best comfortable sleep headphones for gaming—though perhaps not literally sleeping—the plush ear cushions ensure they don't dig into your skin after three or four hours of play. The touch controls add a layer of convenience, allowing you to skip tracks, answer calls, or adjust volume without breaking your flow or reaching for your phone. For a gamer who wants a "headphone for gaming" that doubles as a premium media player, the ability to switch between active noise cancellation and transparency mode instantly is a game-changer.

However, this product is not for everyone. If you prioritize a dedicated microphone boom or require a physical button layout for quick access during intense gameplay, the touch interface might feel slightly less intuitive for some users. Additionally, while the Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity offers excellent range, it does introduce a slight dependency on your device's battery life. You will get up to 18.5 hours of music listening time, which is substantial, but once that battery drains, you must charge them for about two hours to get back to full capacity. While a five-minute charge can buy you almost an hour of listening time, it is still a wired-free experience that eventually needs power. This headset is perfect for the mobile gamer or the content creator who values audio fidelity and wireless freedom above all else, but it may lack the specific communication features that heavy corporate users expect.
The PLT HP, also known as the Poly Blackwire 3325-M, takes a completely different approach by focusing on pure, unadulterated utility. This headset is built for the professional environment where reliability trumps fancy features. Its defining characteristic is the plug-and-play nature of its USB-C connection. There is no Bluetooth pairing dance, no firmware updates required, and no batteries to worry about running dry mid-meeting. You simply plug it into your computer, and it works immediately. This makes it an ideal choice for anyone who needs a "best gaming headset for gaming" scenarios that involve heavy administrative work or constant video conferencing where dropping a connection is not an option. The certification for Microsoft Teams ensures that the audio quality is tuned specifically for voice clarity, making you sound professional and crisp on calls.
Durability and fit are central to its design philosophy. The construction uses robust materials designed to withstand daily wear and tear, whether you are taking it from your home office to a conference room or tossing it into a backpack. The enclosure material is plastic, but it is engineered for longevity rather than luxury. It features a classic over-the-head style with an on-ear design that distributes weight effectively. At just 130 grams, it is incredibly light, reducing fatigue during marathon workdays. The audio driver size of 32 millimeters delivers the signature Poly audio quality, ensuring that you hear every nuance of your conversation without distortion. For those who value sound isolation, this model uses passive noise isolation techniques to keep external chatter at bay, though it does not have the active electronic cancellation found in the Surface series.
This headset is not designed for high-fidelity music listening or immersive single-player gaming experiences. Without active noise cancellation, you will hear the world around you more clearly than with the Surface Headphones 2. Furthermore, the reliance on a wired USB-C connection means you are tethered to your device, which limits mobility. If you are someone who moves around frequently, needs to walk away from your desk without losing audio, or prefers the convenience of wireless freedom, this wired constraint might be a dealbreaker. However, for the user who sits at a desk for eight hours a day, needing a reliable, always-on communication tool that requires zero maintenance, the PLT HP is a fortress of consistency. It is the ultimate tool for the professional who needs their headset to disappear into the background and just work perfectly every single time.

In my opinion, I would buy the Microsoft Surface Headphones 2 if my goal was a versatile "headphone for gaming" that could also handle my commute and music library with equal prowess. The combination of active noise cancellation and wireless freedom creates an experience that feels modern and liberating, perfect for a gamer who wants to disconnect from the real world. However, if my primary focus was strictly productivity and I spent 90% of my time on video calls, I would switch to the PLT HP for its unmatched reliability and zero-fuss setup. Ultimately, for a balanced lifestyle that includes both serious gaming and general multimedia consumption, the Surface Headphones 2 offers the superior all-around package, provided you don't mind managing a charge.
Yes, they are excellent for gaming due to their immersive omnisonic sound and 13 levels of adjustable noise cancellation, which help you focus on in-game audio cues without distraction.
No, the PLT HP connects directly via USB-C, meaning there is no need for Bluetooth pairing; it is ready to use immediately upon plugging it into your computer.
The Microsoft Surface Headphones 2 is superior for this purpose because it features 13 levels of active noise cancellation, whereas the PLT HP relies solely on passive sound isolation.
While the PLT HP is lightweight at 130 grams, its wired design and lack of active noise cancellation make it less ideal for long, immersive gaming sessions compared to the wireless, ANC-equipped Surface Headphones 2.
