A screen reader is assistive technology for people who prefer to hear content versus see it. For example, someone who is blind or who has low vision might use a screen reader to use their computer, read emails, or navigate their Excel spreadsheet. The Windows operating system comes with a screen reader pre-installed, called Narrator. You can turn on Narrator on any Windows device by pressing Ctrl + Windows + Enter. Learn more about Narrator, the Windows built-in screen reader.

The Windows team has added a new experimental capability where app teams can optimize screen reader announcements based on their scenarios, indicating what information is most relevant to them at any given time.

Update: It appears that the above code does work fine if there is only 1 tab in the excel file. This may just be a bug with this library. Has anyone else used this library to parse excel files with multiple tabs?

OK, so my reply is extremely late with reference to this question, but if its any help try encapsulating your code in a reader.NextResult() block. This works the same way as when you parse through multiple DataTable objects within a DataSet.

The reader will match attribute names to column values on the header row, to allow for reordering of the schema in FME or reordering of the columns in the source files. However, renaming a column in the file (but not changing the workspace attributes) will cause that column to be ignored.

Formatting is supported by both the Excel reader and writer. Row and cell formatting is read and written, except for formatting from the header row, and will be preserved from the reader to the writer. Additionally, the Excel writer can write column formatting.

The writer can set protection levels for worksheets only. Encryption of the spreadsheet is not yet possible. The reader can read Excel files even if they have sheet (password) protection, but cannot read encrypted spreadsheets.

The XLSX reader supports reading multiple worksheets and named ranges from the same file. Because of this, multiple files are not supported, so you will need to create a separate reader for each Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.

Below are some free Microsoft Word reader/viewer programs for different operating systems. This list is not exhaustive and is provided for information and convenience only. The State of New Hampshire does not endorse or support these products.

Snap and Read Universal

Snap & Read is a text reader that helps simplifies vocabulary, translates text, read inaccessible text (ex: OCR), and captures and cite sources. Some of the features include: reading aloud, dynamic text leveling, translation, study tools, color overlay/reading line guides, and a screenshot reader.

Every custom reader must define the getName, getTimeValues, and getDataValues methods. Additional methods are available to access certain metadata that might exist in the custom file. The class definition for this example defines the abstract methods as well as the supportsFile and getChildren methods.

To import multiple signals from a file, treat the data as hierarchical with the file being the top node. The reader uses the getChildren method to create an ExcelFirstColumnTimeReader object for each signal in the file.

After you write the class definition file for the custom data reader, you need to register the reader with the Simulation Data Inspector before you can use it to import data. The Simulation Data Inspector does not store registered readers between MATLAB sessions, so you need to register a custom reader at the start of each new MATLAB session. You can register a custom reader to read data from the workspace or to read data from a file. To register the file reader in this example, use the registerFileReader method.

Once you register the custom file reader, you can import data from a file in a custom format using the Simulation Data Inspector UI or using the Simulink.sdi.createRun function. This example imports a simple data set from a file that contains four columns of data. The custom file reader in this example always loads the first column, in this case a, as time data.

After you select a file with an extension that corresponds to one or more registered custom readers, an option to select the reader you want to use appears in the dialog. In this example, you can choose between the built-in Microsoft Excel file reader or the custom reader written for this example. By default, a custom reader is selected when one is available for the extension of the selected file.

To import data programmatically, you can use the Simulink.sdi.createRun function. The Simulation Data Inspector has a built-in reader for Microsoft Excel files. You can specify which reader to use to import the data in the call to the Simulink.sdi.createRun function. When you do not specify the reader you want to use to import the data, the Simulation Data Inspector uses the first custom reader that supports the file extension. 006ab0faaa
