Jessica Bernards

Jessica Bernards is an award-winning mathematics educator and consultant with nearly two decades of experience. She teaches at the University of Oregon and Portland Community College and is the founder of Jessica Bernards Consulting, where she partners with institutions and organizations on equitable grading, leadership, innovative teaching, and AI in education. Jessica served as Northwest Vice President of AMATYC, keynotes at national conferences, and leads faculty workshops. A curriculum consultant, textbook author, and creator of an OER math study skills series, she champions active, inclusive learning. 

In recent years, Jessica has explored the thoughtful integration of artificial intelligence in mathematics education, particularly how AI tools can support teaching, learning, and instructor workflow while maintaining academic integrity and human-centered pedagogy. Her work encourages educators to approach AI not as a replacement for good teaching, but as a tool that can enhance learning experiences and promote access and equity, when used intentionally and responsibly.

Through her involvement with AMATYC and the broader mathematics education community, Jessica is committed to collaboration, reflective practice, and helping instructors navigate emerging technologies with confidence and purpose.
