Problem: Each branch maintained 12 large binders that needed to be updated regularly with product ingredient changes or new customer purchases.
Solution Part 1: I created a USB memory stick to hold all the SDS files as well as an Excel index page where users could click on the link to immediately view the desired document. (The links in this sample document do not work due to being uploaded to Google Drive.)
Solution Part 2: On our web server, I gave our inventory manager access to upload new SDS documents. A web page folder was created so branch staff could download the updated files at any time. I also created an ODBC-based macro so the inventory person could just hit Refresh Data to automatically update the Excel index file.
Did you know there are free fonts and Excel formulas available to create and print your own barcodes?
For one project, I printed QR codes with chemical-resistant toner and paper. These were placed inside equipment so operators could scan the code and look up information on custom web pages.
I have used collaborative tools from Google and Microsoft for business, personal, and group projects. Microsoft Forms + Flow are more powerful and flexible, but the Google suite is much easier to design and deploy for common tasks like collecting form data onto a spreadsheet for online viewing.
A NOT FUN PROJECT
I assembled an IKEA roll-top desk that came in TWO boxes to organize the boardroom equipment.
Problem: Suzuki QChord advertising and demos traditionally target absolute beginners so the instrument is not treated seriously by normal musicians. However, I believe this is a highly-underrated instrument.
My Solution: Using Powerpoint, Paint.net, Audacity, and OBS Studio, I created a demo for hobbyists for stand-alone use, or to connect into professional sound systems.
Problem: Members are often asking what amounts to use, missing setting arrangements, and forgetting details.
Solution: I took photos, documented each section, and printed these reference cards.
Mind maps are a powerful tool I have used for a variety of purposes including event planning, flowcharts, webinars, documentation, and project tracking.
