This project is deeply inspired by Montblanc's iconic design language and commitment to precision craftsmanship. The aim was to create an EDC (Everyday Carry) cigar cutter that seamlessly blends their signature sophistication and timeless elegance with the robust functionality required for a daily-use accessory, reflecting their legacy of quality.Â
My ideation process explored the luxury indulgence space, considering concepts like a lighter, flask, whisky decanter, and cheese knife. This broad exploration aimed to understand how to apply meticulous craftsmanship, premium materials, and timeless design across diverse product categories within this exclusive market.
The prototyping process involved creating successive models from cardboard, chipboard, Masonite, and acrylic. These materials were chosen to simulate the eventual metal, allowing for iterative testing of ergonomics and critical geometric relationships. This hands-on approach was essential in refining the design before final production.
The final EDC cigar cutter design combines durability with refined aesthetics. It features a stainless steel blade and aluminum handles. Designed for everyday carry, it includes a pocket carry bead and operates as a friction folder, offering a simple, highly functional mechanism.
