Foldable Bicycle Wheel
A majority of the EDD course was focused on a capstone project. In this project, a foldable bicycle wheel designed to improve the portability of foldable bicycles. The foldable bicycle wheel can be separated into three identical sections, which are each further collapsible. Each section connects to the center hub of the wheel; connections between sections utilize quick-release connectors to easily connect sections. Finally, the frame of each section is made of aluminum and the tire is made of solid rubber.
The final objective of the project was to construct an initial prototype. The initial prototype represented all features of the design to scale, but was not made of the final materials. The prototype was manufactured using a CNC router, hand power tools, and various hand tools. The project was presented to school faculty and local engineers using the presentation seen below.
