Confused about CICs?
The government reported that there were more than 37,000 active CICs as of 31 March 2025. MI Happen CIC is proud to be one of these social enterprises. But what are CICs? CIC stands for a Community Interest Company. More details about the CIC entity can be found on the gov website here. The short version is that CICs are legal entities created by the government for social enterprise businesses. It is an alternative to a charity entity which is sometimes a blocker of entry to do good for people in need because of the administrational burden.
MI Happen CIC is a CIC Limited by Guarantee (CLG), which means no Director can take out money from the business. Any profit made within a financial year is reinvested into the community we have declared to help. As a CIC, governance works a bit differently to a charity, as it's governed by Companies House rather than the Charity Commission. CICs must submit a CIC report (called 'form CIC34') which declares what the CIC has done across the year. So, the activities of the CIC are auditable by absolutely anyone and everyone 🙂.
We take governance very seriously at MI Happen CIC, so we get advice from our advisory team, who are made up of people who are experienced in the charity and social enterprise sector.
What are the financial company incentives to support us? The sponsorship routes to support us are through various marketing sponsorship package options. Marketing sponsorship packages are a valid business expense, which means the cost can be deducted from corporation tax obligations. More details on the sponsorship packages at MI Happen CIC can be found here.
