Peter Đào

My name is Peter Đào or Pooders and I'm a 2nd year at MHTL. A little about me, I go to Creek as a junior and I'm a part-time artist and editor. Some things I enjoy are late-night drives and biking with friends! The person I'm dedicating this drawing to is my mom since she's one of the important people in my life.

Its the Journey, not the destination

A little bit about my mom, she first originated in Sài Gòn City in Việt Nam and came to America in her 20s. She's told me heartbreaking stories throughout my life explaining how I should be grateful for everything in my life, and being the ungrateful, ignorant boy, I didn't listen. But entering MHTL, it made me feel differently on my perspective of life and made me who am today. This is why I made this drawing, to commemorate my mom and dad for the sacrifices they made just so I could have a better life than what they had. I drew this drawing this way because this is what I pictured how the boat journey was as a kid, and now that I was able to fully understand more about the journey, I understand what's so difficult about my parents life and what they experienced before coming to America.

After doing this project, it kind of relaxed me a bit from school. It was really nice to do something else that I was passionate about while being able to spread a message or share something that's personal. It was an eye-opening experience and I really enjoyed it :)
