Hi I'm aNdy and this is my story telling project :D
First of all, I'm not really focusing on how my parents got to America for this project, I'll explain later! Anyways My sister and I made Chao or rice porridge for my Dad who was sick.
She's a senior in high school
3 ounces of minced chicken
4 cups of chicken stock
1 cup of cooked rice
3 tablespoons of oil
1/2 of a teaspoon of salt
a pinch of pepper and garlic pepper
sesame oil
lemon juice
we actually did this project twice, once as a test run and second on as the actual thing.
I messed up the first time by cooking it for too long but both dishes were good overall
My mom helped a little bit for the second one but we quickly shooed her away
I over salted the water during my second try but it was ok
Had to do this at 2am in the morning, due to my dad having work and coming home very late
very nice andy -leyna
the water be boiling :D
chop chop
chop chop
Um so I didn't think to take an actual photo of the final dish so I found this stock photo that looks sort of similar, also my recording of my sister and I giving the dish to my dad file was corrupted.
At first, I really did wanted to focus this project on how my dad came to America. I knew some of his story growing up but for this project I needed to ask more. During that process he became super ill and very weak. To give a little background, both of my parents have cancer and has had it for quite awhile. My mom is better now but my dad I don't have the slightest clue. His case was so bad that they don't want to tell me so I don't worry. Regardless, my mom asked me to stop bothering him with questions and to leave him be during the time he was very weak. I thought to myself, what could I do? Then it hit me, what did my parents do for me when they were sick, cook me comfort food. Growing up, eating rice porridge was sort of medicinal and helped me when I was sick. So that inspired my idea of cooking for my dad! I learned that I need to work hard, just like my dad. He still gets up and works all that he cans to provide for my family, even when he is sick. I respect him and my mom a lot.
