The annual Potomac Day event, held on October 19, 2024, was a vibrant celebration of community spirit and cultural diversity. This year marked the sixth consecutive participation of the Millennial Global Youth Foundation (MGY) and the Formosa Association of Student Cultural Ambassadors DC chapter (FASCA DC) in the parade and cultural booth, showcasing the rich heritage of Taiwan to the mainstream community.

The event featured a lively parade where FASCA DC students proudly marched, and performed cultural diabolo.  Their booth was a hub of activity, offering visitors a chance to experience Taiwanese culture through different games, arts & crafts, and delicious snacks. The highlight was the interactive language sessions, where attendees could learn basic Mandarin phrases, fostering a deeper appreciation for Taiwanese culture and language.

A significant moment of the day was the meeting between FASCA DC students and former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan. This interaction underscored the importance of building connections between Taiwanese-American youth and influential American political figures. The students engaged in meaningful conversations with Hogan, discussing the role of Taiwanese-Americans in public affairs and the importance of civic engagement.

The event emphasized the active participation of Taiwanese communities in mainstream American activities, encouraging the younger generation to take an active role in public policy and directly engage with political candidates. This initiative not only promoted cultural exchange but also highlighted the contributions of Taiwanese-Americans to the broader community

As the sun set on Potomac Day, the efforts of MGY and FASCA DC left a lasting impression, bridging cultures and creating memorable experiences for all attendees. The success of this event showcased the positive impact of cultural exchange and the importance of fostering understanding and appreciation of diversity in Potomac, Maryland.
