一年一度的洛克維爾市元宵燈會於 2 月 21 日在馬里蘭州洛克維爾市 F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre 盛大舉行,吸引大華府地區僑胞與主流社區民眾共襄盛舉。活動由 Rockville Sister Cities Corporation 主辦,融合舞台表演與文化體驗,現場節慶氣氛濃厚,展現臺灣文化在海外社區的深耕成果。
出席貴賓包括姊妹市主席 David Hill、洛克維爾市長 Monique Ashton 及市議員 Kate Fulton、Barry Jackson、Marissa Valeri、Adam Van Grack,蒙哥馬利郡郡長 Marc Elrich、馬里蘭州州長亞太裔事務辦公室行政主任 Christina Poy,以及馬州參議員 Clarence Lam。僑務委員會委員長徐佳青與駐美國代表處公使楊懿珊也應邀出席。洛克維爾市長與市議會特別頒發表彰狀予徐佳青,肯定其長期支持洛克維爾與宜蘭姊妹市交流合作,展現地方政府對臺美友誼的重視。
Marc Elrich 致詞表示,當前正是最需要樂觀與團結的時刻,期盼新的一年為社群注入更多能量與韌性。他分享自己已四度訪問臺灣,自首次參與智慧城市會議以來,持續與臺灣政府、大學、研究機構及企業界建立合作關係,並協助企業拓展市場、促進雙向交流。他強調,地方層級的夥伴關係與民間社群的參與,是深化國際連結的重要力量,而旅美臺灣社群正是推動交流的重要橋樑。
本次舞台表演由臺頑千禧青少年基金會(MGY) 負責規劃,以東亞文化為主軸,多組來自大華府地區的臺灣僑界與青年團體輪番上陣,透過音樂、舞蹈與傳統技藝展現濃厚臺灣文化特色。舞台演出以氣勢磅礴的太鼓揭開序幕,震撼鼓聲瞬間點燃全場氣氛。緊接著舞獅登場,獅身翻騰跳躍、俯首點睛,象徵吉祥如意。Formosan Groove 樂團以二胡融合西洋樂器演繹臺灣歌曲,展現中西交融特色;「婆姐祝福慶元宵」以傳統舞姿傳遞節慶祝福。Chesapeake Flow 與 Formosa Vibe 帶來融合元素的 T-pop 街舞演出,「七年級樂團」以動感臺灣曲目展現青春活力,Infinite Diabolo 扯鈴團隊則以高難度技巧詮釋傳統技藝的現代表現力。整體節目在傳統與創新之間取得平衡,充分展現臺灣文化多元而富生命力的一面。臺灣職棒味全龍「小龍女」啦啦隊成員林襄與李多慧則驚喜現身會場,觀賞演出並與民眾互動,雖未登台表演,卻成為現場亮點之一。
徐佳青表示:「很開心看到許多年輕臺裔努力學習各類文化並上臺表演,透過這樣的交流活動,促進美臺友好,也展現他們的自信與文化認同。」
場外文化體驗區同樣熱鬧,由 FASCA DC 青年志工和文化老師帶領民眾製作紙燈籠、捏麵人書寫春聯及體驗傳統童玩,客家文化展示亦吸引眾多家庭參與。傳統技藝與親子互動交織,讓主流社區民眾近距離感受臺灣節慶文化的溫度與魅力。
The annual Rockville Lantern Festival took place on February 21 at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre in Rockville, Maryland, drawing a large crowd of overseas Taiwanese and local community members. Hosted by the Rockville Sister Cities Corporation, the event combined stage performances with cultural experiences, highlighting the deep roots of Taiwanese culture within the local community.
Distinguished guests included Sister Cities Chair David Hill, Rockville Mayor Monique Ashton, and City Councilmembers. Also in attendance were Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich, Maryland Governor’s AAPI Office Director Christina Poy, and State Senator Clarence Lam. Hsu Chia-ching, Minister of the Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC), and Deputy Representative Andrea Yang from the Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office (TECRO) were also invited. The Mayor and Council presented a proclamation to Minister Hsu, honoring her long-standing support for the sister-city relationship between Rockville and Yilan City.
Marc Elrich noted that in times requiring optimism and unity, he hopes the new year brings energy and resilience. Having visited Taiwan four times, he emphasized that local partnerships and the Taiwanese-American community serve as vital bridges for international cooperation in technology, research, and business.
The stage program, curated by the MGY Foundation, featured:
Traditional Arts: A powerful Ta鼓 (taiko) opening, lion dances, and the "Blessings of the Goddesses" traditional dance.
Musical Fusion: Formosan Groove blended the erhu with Western instruments, while the 7th Grade Band performed high-energy Taiwanese hits.
Modern Energy: Chesapeake Flow and Formosa Vibe performed T-pop street dance, and Infinite Diabolo showcased modern spinning top skills.
Surprise Guests: Mizuki Lin Xiang and Dahye Lee, members of the Dragon Beauties cheer squad from Taiwan’s Wei Chuan Dragons baseball team, made a surprise appearance to interact with the crowd.
Minister Hsu praised the young Taiwanese-Americans for their confidence and cultural pride. Outside the theater, the cultural zone remained bustling as FASCA DC volunteers led workshops on paper lanterns, dough sculpting, calligraphy, and traditional games, offering the community a hands-on taste of Taiwanese festive warmth.
