Class overview
In celebration of our 20th Anniversary, Artem Uzunov gave Mystic Grove CUUPs permission to share his "How to play Darbuka. Level 1 (beginners)" Udemy class.
Join us all year at this "drop in and family friendly" class on 4th Wednesdays starting on Sept 27, 2023 at 6:45 PM EST as we explore middle eastern patterns.
Bring any drum, box, or bucket. Come for the whole series or just the topics you like best.
Students will learn how to hold the drum properly, how to play basic strokes, perform various exercises. Step by step. From slow to fast. We will learn to play basic Arabic rhythms.
We meet 4th Wednesday of the month at 6:45 - 7:45 PM.

Supplies
While a darbuka is the main instrument used, you can use any drum, bucket, box, or other suitable household object you happen to have during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our "What to Bring" page gives some suggestions.

Extra Subscriptions
While you don't need anything else to participate in this "drop in friendly" class with Mystic Grove CUUPs, if you want to practice more often, we encourage you to get your own subscription to "How to Play Darbuka Level 1" and/or the Darbuka Rhymthm app.
Facebook Study Group

About Artem Uzunov
Artem Uzunov is a darbuka player, a master-teacher at many dance festivals around the world, a composer of drum musical compositions, including “I Wanna Dance”, “Melody of Heartbeat”, “That’s Freedom”, “TrrPhoto”, “Belbly”, “I Wanna DumTek” and others which are famous in belly dance community.

About Barbara H.
Barbara is a member of Mystic Grove CUUPS. She plays guitar with the Folk Ensemble and sings with the Chalice Choir at First Unitarian Church of Orlando. She has taught dog training classes for years, and developed an interest in percussion while attending drum lessons with her daughter.
About Cat R.
Cat is the current chair of Mystic Grove CUUPs. She also serves as secretary for the Board of Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans. (www.cuups.org)
She has taught classes at First Unitarian Church of Orlando for over 15 years with students ranging from nursery level to adult.
