Here are a selection of links to some Buying guides and reviews on the MG6.
It is always best to keep in mind whether the reviewer or guide is disscussing a new or used car as there is a very big difference between the two.
Despite this list there are loads of us happily daily driving MG6s without any problems.
There do seem to be good cars and bad ones regarding the MG6. If you are looking at buying one make sure you take it for a longer test drive than normal and check everything works like AC, windows up and down and check in the boot under the false floor for water ingress.
ABS/traction control warning light - this is a common problem but easy to fix with new wheel speed sensors being fitted.
Earthing point on OSF suspension turret. This corrods and can cause all sorts of electrical problems especially making dash warning lights come on. To fix, remove and clean the contacts and the mating surface on the car, then use contact / electrical grease and refit. I have added an extra earth from this point back to the earth point on the battery.
Clean your drain holes on your doors - many don't think about this and it could be the reason for the window cables snapping due to moisture...... One owner said "when I got my 6 the doors were full of water"..!
The boot has water in.... The boot seal isn't seated and sealing properly, take the seal off to just above the lights put some silicone in the seal then refit.
Window regulator failing as they do have plastic parts on them and over time they do become weak also the cables rust and sometimes snap.
Coolant level light comes on but level okay. The level float sticks, this can be fixed by removing the unit and cleaning it. (or unpluging the cable)
Alarm issues....? Does it go off once you unlock the car & then takes AGES to silence it? Most just unplug the alarm sounder that is behind the reat bumper skin above the exhast tail pipe. It's a bit of a reach but can be done without removing the bumper. Or it can be replaced with a new one or some say to just replace the small battery inside the unit.
In the early days there was a recall to change the aerial. That was due to poor reception, the problem was with the original aerial. If the aerial was unscrewed to use an automatic car wash then the connection between the aerial and the amplifier inside the aerial base was immediately and permanently damaged. There was a replacement aerial available from MG which sorted out the problem and allowed unscrewing of the aerial from the base without damaging it. It was fairly easy to replace the aerial on a GT but the rear of the headlining has to be eased a bit to allow access.
MK1 ICE head unit was pretty reliable. MK2 was more troublesome and MG ran out of stock of replacement units with DAB and sat nav, pretty quickly and refused to make anymore. Even for cars less than 3 years old!
Poor radio reception due to faulty aerials, should all be replaced under warranty by now.
Heated rear window has been known to fail and in some cases the rear window smashes because of wiring issues.
The MG6 does not like being left with the doors, boot or bonnet open for any length of time as the electronic systems in the car conspire to quickly flatten the battery.

Adding performance and modifying the MG6.
Tuning Box for Petrol 1.8 MG6 The TDI-Petrol Tuning Box for the MG 6 1.8 TCi-Tech takes your engine from 158 BHP up to 198 BHP
Tuning Box for Diesel 1.9 MG6 The Diesel Tuning Box for your MG 6 1.9 DTi takes your engine from 148 BHP up to 195 BHP
Fitting a Pod air filter helps the engine breathe better and gives a nice turbo induction whoosh noise with dump valve sound. (Not for everybody, some owners have gone back to standard because they find it a bit boy-racer)!
Turn the traction control off, this seems to give a little more performance and help with smoother gear changes for some owners. If you press and hold it again until the heads up display flashes, it turns off the stability control system which makes cornering even better too.
Fitting a custom large bore exhaust also helps performance letting the waste gasses exit the turbo with less back pressure.
Rear wiper delete, it often stops working on the MK1s so some owners have removed it. The MK2s did not have one fitted from new.
Magnecor Performance HT leads 8mm (Same for all K engines ZR/ZS/TF/MG6).
The headlights on the mk1 are not very good, lots of owners have upgraded to HID kits or just up-rated H7 bulbs (dipped and main beam are seprate H7 units and the side lights are T10).
Towbars are hard to get and it's believed they are no longer made new. If you need one best to ask or keep an eye out for a used one.
