Exhibit 4

The above image is the original image I used for the background. Finding an image with the right view point and creative commons license was very difficult, so I had to work with this image. I used the content aware fill to edit out the dogs and footprints. Then I used the blur tool to blur the distance and hide any imperfections.

The above image is the image I used for my subject. I used the mask tool to select my subjects.

  • Why I chose this message

I chose this message because I wanted to have some fun and challenge myself. I was inspired by past olympic ads and I wanted to give it a try. At first, I really regretted not going with something easier because I had to take extra time to experiment with what techniques worked best, but I think I like how it turned out.

I used contrast between the grayscale background and my colored subjects (although with low saturation). I like how the red stands out from the black and white. I also used contrast in the text. The white text is very readable against the darker background.

I used repetition while creating the reflection in the ice. There is also some repetition of color in the Olympic rings I used at the bottom of the page. I used mostly a center alinement excluding the icons at the bottom of the page, which have a horizontal alinement with each other.

For proximity, I put the reflection as close as possible to the main image to make the image look more realistic. I also placed my subjects in the middle of the page, not to high because it would give the illusion they would they were floating midair and not too low because it would look like they were too close to the camera.

For my font choice, I went with the "Couture" font. It is just slightly italicized giving the feel of movement. It is also in all caps to look.. maybe powerful or exciting.

I used the grayscale because it created a serious tone. It leads the viewer to focus less on the background and focus the eye on the athletes who popped in their red uniforms and sled. I used a less saturated version of the original because it was too bright against the black and white.
