At T-Mobile, we believe that overages are flat-out wrong. We no longer charge our customers for going over their allotted talk, text, or data limits for domestic usage. There are a few exceptions depending on the account type, and we explain those below.
On May 1, 2014, T-Mobile stopped charging our customers for domestic overages on plans and services with limited talk, text, and data buckets. As a T-Mobile customer, you're most likely already on one of our rate plans that no longer has overage charges. You didn't need to change your plan or services to realize this awesome benefit; we just added this perk to your rate plan.
If you find that you've gone over your allotted data plan, whether you're using a smartphone or tablet, you can still use data at a reduced speed. But, you won't be charged for any overages! Once your billing cycle begins again, your high-speed data will be restored. If you tend to use your high-speed data up before the end of your billing cycle each month, you may want to add more data, or you can buy an On Demand Data Pass.
If you have a voice-only rate plan with a messaging add-on feature, then both of those features are now treated as unlimited with no domestic overages. If you remove the messaging feature, your account becomes a pay-per-use rate plan, which means you could continue to text, but you'd be charged on a per-message basis. Therefore, we recommend NOT removing the messaging feature. If you'd like to use Message Blocking, it's available free of charge. Find out more about Message Blocking.
For homes that aren't yet eligible for our unlimited T-Mobile 5G Home Internet service, we offer data bucketed plans starting at 100GB that can be used on the T-Mobile 4G LTE or 5G networks without being tied to a specific location. Customers can also choose from higher data buckets: 150 GB, 200 GB, or 300 GB.
The Unlimited plan offers 5 GB of hotspot data and 100 GB Google One storage for $50 per month. On multi-line plans, lines two through four are an additional $30 per month, with the fifth line for an additional $10 per month.
The Unlimited Plus plan bumps the hotspot data allotment to 15 GB per month and offers subscribers a free Amazon Prime membership in addition to Google One. One line is $60 per month, with the second, third, and fifth lines an additional $30 per month. On four-line plans, the fourth line is free.
Two data-capped plans and two unlimited plans are available, starting at $30 per month for a single line with 2 GB of data. The price increases from $10 per month for each better plan (10 GB, unlimited with 5 GB hotspot, and unlimited with 15 GB hotspot) to $60 per month for the best plan.
The $50 Unlimited plan adds in 5 GB of mobile hotspot data, and offers a free 100 GB Google One Account, while the $60 Unlimited Plus plan offers 10 GB additional mobile hotspot data and adds in a free Amazon Prime subscription.

Every Metro by T-Mobile plan comes with basic scam block, scam call ID screenings, and caller ID. Voted the No. 3 airport in the world, Denver International Airport (DEN) sits smack in the middle of the country, no more than four hours from virtually anywhere in the contiguous United States. Nearly 69 million passengers travel through the airport each year. The airport features a hotel and the A-line RTD train which connects it to the heart of the city.
Advanced Mobile Phone Service (AMPS) was the first generation of cellular technology. Devices at the time used the 800 MHz Band 5 for voice transmission. As cell phone usage increased, the band was no longer large enough. To account for new demand, the FCC opened the 1900 MHz Band 2 and named it the Personal Communications Service (PCS). For a while, AMPS and PCS were the main cellular frequency bands in use. 2G and 3G used the same portion of the spectrum. As 3G evolved, more frequencies were made available.
Smartphones changed the game. Since phones were no longer just used for calling and texting, more bands opened. 4G frequencies include the 600 MHz, 700 MHz, 1700/2100 MHz, 2300 MHz, and 2500 MHz, bands. The lower frequencies made it possible for carriers to transmit 4G/LTE signals in rural and remote areas.
4G: 4G, short for fourth-generation, is a mobile telecommunications system that changed the way we consume content. 4G devices can handle talk, text, and data-heavy fast internet. It made mobile apps such as YouTube, Netflix, Facebook, and others possible.
High Band 5G or mmWave: 5G mmWave ranges from 24-39 GHz. Being on the high end of the RF spectrum, these frequencies can carry lots of data at super-fast speeds with little latency. Though, they can't travel as far or penetrate buildings. Thus, coverage is only available in densely populated areas with large amounts of infrastructure.
Note: As of February 22, 2022, AT&T phased out its 3G network to make room for a more modern one. T-Mobile is expected to shut down its 3G network by July 1, 2022, and Verizon by December 31, 2022. The chart below is for educational purposes, data is soon to be obsolete.
The above methods only show a piece of the puzzle. Most devices support more bands than the ones a cellular carrier uses. To find all the bands, navigate to the website of the provider the device was purchased from. Search for your specific device. Under specs, you'll find a "Wireless Technology", "Frequency", or "Network" section. This section will show you ALL the bands and technologies your device supports. Unfortunately, not every website provides this information.
In its latest report, testing firm OpenSignal now says that T-Mobile has the fastest network speeds and that it's passed Verizon in terms of 4G availability. RootMetrics ranks T-Mobile's network lower in its testing, though T-Mobile takes issue with the way RootMetrics collects its data. T-Mobile is happier to tout crowdsourced data from Ookla (opens in new tab) that shows it with the fastest network speeds. However you want to frame the numbers, T-Mobile has a strong network, which MetroPCS subscribers get to enjoy.
T-Mobile offers a lone plan: a $70-a-month T-Mobile One plan with unlimited data. A $10-a-month add-on lets you stream video at HD resolution, among other benefits, while a $25-a-month package throws in unlimited international calling to landlines and mobile numbers in select countries. A newly unveiled variation on that unlimited plan should appeal to seniors: T-Mobile lets anyone 55 years and older get two lines of unlimited data for $60 a month.
