Schools distribute MetroCards that let eligible students get to and from school and school-related activities. As with regular MetroCards, Student MetroCards allow for a free transfer between the subway and local/limited/Select Bus services, or a free transfer between buses

A day is a 24-hour calendar day, from midnight to 11:59 p.m. Like any other MetroCard, you get an automatic free transfer between the subway and a local bus route, SIR and a local bus, or between two local bus routes

SmarTrip is required for travel on Metrorail and is the best way to pay when riding Metrobus and regional buses around metropolitan Washington DC.

The quickest and easiest way to get SmarTrip is by using Apple Wallet (iPhone or Apple Watch) or Google Wallet (Android), you can purchase a new SmarTrip, add value to it, and have it ready to use in less than a minute!

The more often you ride, the more money you save. With our 5 for 50 offer, you earn five free single ride trips for every 50 single ride trips you purchase using a METRO Q Fare Card or a METRO Q Mobile Ticket.

With the exception of vending machine tickets and cash, all ways to pay shown below include free transfers between any METRO services of equal or lesser value for up to three hours in any direction. For transfers to a service with a higher cost, you only pay the fare difference for up to three hours in any direction.

The RideMETRO App offers a variety of tools and information you may find useful. That includes one-tap access to the companion METRO Q Ticketing App where you can purchase and activate mobile tickets.

Tap card on fare validator, or hold your card near validator until light registers green.

When you reload a registered card online, you can enable autoload. This allows you to set a schedule for how often and how much cash value is automatically added to your card. Registering your card also protects its account balance if the card gets lost. To register a card for free, visit any METRO RideStore location or contact Customer Service at 713-635-4000.

Metro Cards have a $0 balance when you purchase them so you will need to add funds before you use your card. The cost of the Metro Card is $5 in addition to the cost of a fare. However, for a limited time Metro Cards are FREE!

Register your card to view your account balance or add funds with a debit or credit card. Registration is not required to pay for fares, but without it, if your card is lost or stolen you will lose your Tap & Go balance.

Bus riders can still buy tickets through the MMTransit.com, at ticket vending machines, participating King Soopers and Safeway Stores, the Transit Administration Office (1015 Transit Dr.) or pay a cash fare at the bus just like they have in the past. Purchases of tickets through any of these methods will not benefit from fare capping available with the Metro Card or the RideMMT app.

You can add $5 to $400 onto an ORCA card's E-purse (electronic purse), which works just like a pre-paid debit card. The ORCA tracks your rides and deducts the correct fare each time you tap. When your E-purse balance gets low, simply add value online, at a kiosk, or in person at an ORCA customer service office.

If you qualify for the ORCA LIFT program, you'll receive an ORCA LIFT card registered to your name, with the same features as every other ORCA card. You can load E-purse value to pay for trips one at a time or load a monthly PugetPass that lets you take unlimited trips for that calendar month. For any special trips costing a higher fare than your monthly PugetPass, you can add E-purse value.

The ORCA Multifamily Development Passport is an annual transportation pass that property owners can offer to residents. This pass gives residents comprehensive access to transit services in the Puget Sound Region, including local and express bus service, Link light rail, Sounder commuter rail, Seattle Center Monorail, Seattle Streetcar, and King County Water Taxi.

The Regional Reduced Fare Permit (RRFP) simplifies travel for seniors and riders with disabilities around Puget Sound. Any eligible person may apply for an RRFP card on our Reduced Fare Portal or at an ORCA customer service office.

Senior RRFP cards can also be obtained by mailing the application to our customer service office.

Young riders with disabilities who are age 18 and under should also get a Youth ORCA Youth card to travel fare free. Riders 18 and under who require a personal care attendant (PCA) should apply for both Youth ORCA card and an RRFP card. A special PCA sticker can then be added to a Youth ORCA card to allow personal care attendants to board without paying a fare.

King County Metro and Sound Transit have partnered to create a new, subsidized annual pass program, allowing qualified riders to travel on select transit in our region at no cost to the customer. The subsidized annual pass is valid for up to 12 calendar months and is renewable each year, provided eligibility requirements are met.

Employers can either choose to prepay for simple, ready to use 31-Day Unlimited Passes or 10-Ride Cards, or they can choose our Commute Card. This annual card provides unlimited rides and transfers for $1.40 each, to be billed post-use.

The Commute Card is an annual unlimited ride pass, where the only cost associated is the per ride fee of $1.40 (a 60 base fare savings per ride). Employees simply swipe the Metro Commute Card through the fare box each time they board a Metro bus.

Each card is tracked per employee by a serial number. Every month your organization or business will receive an invoice showing the number of rides and cost per serial number for the previous month. Cards can be easily deactivated in case of an employee departure or loss of card. There are no minimum requirements in terms of usage or participants.

These passes are active for 31-days after first use. Employers are encouraged to buy multiple months at a time to ensure employees always have access to transportation even after expiration. Rides are paid for prior to use.

SMC Promise students can obtain a METRO/GO TAP card without having to first pay the $22.50 student Benefits Fee. However, the METRO system must first recognize that a student is part of SMC Promise or the fees will still be assessed.

If you are a full-time registered student, a benefits-eligible faculty and staff member, or a full-time employee of basic service contractors, you can register for a U-Pass for free. There are no restrictions on the area or on times the pass is valid and, if you use your U-Pass as your primary mode of transportation to and from campus and do not have another parking permit, you can also enroll in our Daily Use Program.

If you lose your U-Pass, you may obtain a replacement in person from the Parking & Transportation Services office. When you come to the office, you will need to fill out a small form and present your photo ID. Students will be required to pay a replacement fee of $25 by cash, check or credit card.
