Racing wasn’t just a dream for Tyler Merrill—it was discovered. It all started when Tyler’s dad spotted a go-kart in a shop window and knew instantly his son had to have one. That one moment sparked everything. Tyler climbed into the kart for the first time and it didn’t take long to realize what the family had stumbled upon—Tyler wasn’t just interested in racing… he was a natural behind the wheel.
Now 34 years old, Tyler brings over 25 years of racing experience to every lap, with almost 60 feature wins and five series championships earned across multiple divisions. His journey began at just 7 years old in Show Low, Arizona, where he dominated the karting scene—racking up 40 feature wins and more than 80 top-five finishes in only five years.
By age 12, Tyler became one of the youngest drivers to pilot a Micro Sprint 250cc, quickly proving he belonged on bigger stages. In 2006, Merrill Motorsports expanded into the 600cc Micro Sprint class, and Tyler made an immediate impact in his debut season, finishing second in four races and consistently landing in the top five.
From there, his rise through the racing ranks was relentless. Tyler went on to excel across multiple competitive classes, earning the 2015 AMA Championship and further cementing himself as a driver built for pressure and performance. In 2016, he joined the elite Bandit Racing team to compete against top-level talent in the Power 600 series.
Even when injuries sidelined him in 2017, Tyler’s drive never slowed. He continued to compete in 360 non-wing sprint car events during recovery—showing the resilience, toughness, and passion that define him.
Today, in 2026, Tyler enters his third season in the EcoTec Midget—continuing to evolve as a driver while pushing limits with speed, precision, and grit. In the 2025 season alone, Tyler competed in 17 feature events and delivered multiple standout performances in a tough field, earning 3 Top-5 finishes and 7 Top-10 finishes—a reflection of his growing momentum and consistent racecraft. Even more impressively, Tyler was recognized by the club for being present at every race throughout the entire 2025 season, proving he’s not just committed to competing—he’s committed to the grind, the team, and the sport.
Tyler Merrill isn’t just a racer—he’s a force on the track. His story is built on legacy, perseverance, and performance… and he’s only getting started!
