2020 Updates

Hi, hope you're doing alright amid the pandemic and distancing environment we find ourselves in. Here are a few important Beautycounter updates:

How Beautycounter is Helping

  • BC has independently donated over $100,000 in safer products to nurses, doctors, and other essential care providers in North America.

  • For every order you place, BC is donating one Counter+ Charcoal Cleansing Bar to healthcare workers.

  • BC has teamed up with other major skincare and makeup brands in #BeautyUnited to provide supplies to those on the front lines. Other companies include Bobbi Brown, Goop, Victoria Beckham Beauty, Too Faced, Unilever. (View the Joint Founders' Video, or read the Allure Article)

  • BC is still in business for you. Their distribution workforce has been provided with hand-sanitizing stations and safety trainings, and are continuously disinfecting to keep themselves and you safe.

  • BC physical stores are offering virtual skin-care consultations and makeup tutorials. Schedule your 1:1 with an NYC rep or a store near you.

  • As of October 2020, the New York Soho store (51 Prince Street) is open for business! You can drop in to pick out what you'd like and avoid paying shipping (hurrah!) or you can even order in advance for easy curbside pick-up.

Important Product Changes

To make room for some exciting new formulas, a few old classics are going away...

  • CounterStart is a NEW cleanser (Cococream) and moisturizer (Cocobost) -- the two essential facial care items - at a more affordable price - for anyone to get started with safer skincare. Great for anyone with neutral or sensitive skin.

  • All Bright C Serum is a brand new serum to brighten up your face in the morning. Considering how obsessed I am with the #1 Brightening Oil, I'm excited to try the Vitamin C Serum.

    • What's the difference between the Vitamin C Serum and the #1 Brightening Oil? The Oil is more like a moisturizer and falls under the "protect" phase of your skincare routine. The Serum is a treatment, much more potent / with higher concentration of ingredients.

    • I already use the Rejuvenating or Countertime Serum - how does this fit in? The Vitamin C serum is optimal for morning application to brighten your skin all day. I plan to use the Vitamin C serum in the morning, and continue with the Countertime serum at night.

    • If you're curious about the Vitamin C Serum or have other questions, reply to this email and I'll share more details!

  • Skin Twin Featherweight Foundation is the new formula foundation that is replacing Tint Skin (which is now in the "Last Chance" category with rejuvenating and nourishing.

    • Benefits for you:

      • Safer ingredients, as always. Stringently tested.

      • Lightweight and breathable - very natural-looking and natural-feeling foundation

      • Buildable if you want more coverage

      • Features hyaluronic acid to visibly plump your skin (it's more than makeup; it's treatment)

      • 18 shades - something for everyone!

      • A new shade-finder to help you find your match! If you'd like help, let me know.

    • Benefits for the planet:

      • Glass bottle (preventing an estimated 235k plastic tubes from entering landfills and waterways per year)

      • Sourced fron North America (so it travels ~5,000 fewer miles to get filled)

      • Don't take my word - See what The Zoe Report had to say about it.

  • The entire Nourishing line will be discontinued in favor of the new CounterStart items. If you're a fan of the Nourishing Cream Exfoliator or other Nourishing cleansers and creams, be sure to order them now, before they're sold out and not re-stocked.

  • The Rejuvenating line is also being discontinued, given the success of Countertime. You can still find the Rejuvenating toner pads, radiance serum, and eye cream in the "Last Chance" section of the website.

  • Tint Skin Hydrating Foundation being phased out in favor of the new Skin Twin foundation above. I've personally ordered a last version of my sand shade. (Our beloved Dew Skin Tinted Moisturizer with SPF will remain around - great for summer.)

You can always find discontinued items at a discount in the "Last Chance" section of the website -- that is, until they're gone.

My New Routine

Make-up break: I've been using this time year at home to really give my skin a solid break from makeup. Is it necessary? No, makeup isn't inherently bad for your skin -- especially makeup like Beautycounter's. Still, there are two things to watch out for when you do wear makeup: (1) Remove it completely at night before bed. If you miss some, that's where trouble starts. (2) When removing, avoid using harsh wipes and really dragging your skin around. Be gentle with your skin. <-- This is one I know I'm guilty of; in a hurry to get my makeup off, I'm too harsh with it. Gotta say, I'm loving not needing to worry or rush to get anything off my face at night; just a gentle charcoal bar cleanse at night to wash off anything from the day or outside air.

In the evening, I do the full CounterTime routine and am seeing a huge difference in my skin from adding in the serum and supreme cream. I've also been using in the Overnight Resurfacing Peel for about 10 months now, more regularly swapping it in (exchanging with Serum a few times per week) since March, and love how my skin feels in the morning.

In the morning, I rinse with water and drop on the #1 Brightening Facial Oil - that's it. Sometimes I add a pinch of the cream blusher if I want to look a bit more fresh on video meetings. I've dabbled a bit with the new All Bright serum since it premiered over the summer - nice and bright!

When I go outside for a walk, I wear a hat and/or sunglasses to protect my face and eyes, and started adding in sunscreen this past weekend which was particularly warm and sunny! (Countersun on body, Dew Skin on face.)
