MemoraTrail Privacy Policy
1. About This Policy
MemoraTrail (the “App”) helps you record and revisit your routes, places, activities, and location-based memories. This Privacy Policy explains how information is processed when you use the App.
Your route history, saved places, and photo-location index are primarily stored on your device. The current App does not require a MemoraTrail account or automatically synchronize its route database to a developer-operated server. However, map services, Apple location services, and optional iCloud features involve processing outside your device, as explained below.
2. Information the App Processes
Location, routes, and places
With your permission, the App processes location coordinates, timestamps, altitude, direction of travel, location accuracy, speed, and distance. It also stores recording modes, activity types, and identifiers used to organize records and exercise sessions.
We use this information to show your position, record routes, identify and display stays and journeys, calculate activity summaries, play back trips, and generate exploration maps, heatmaps, and fog-of-exploration views. These records can reveal sensitive information about your movements and places you visit.
If you allow background location access, location recording may continue while the App is not on screen, subject to your settings and iOS restrictions.
Motion and fitness information
With Motion & Fitness permission, the App reads step-count information to display your daily steps alongside your route information. This feature uses the device’s step-counting service; the current App does not request access to your HealthKit database.
Photos and photo metadata
If you enable photo display and grant Photos access, the App reads accessible photos and their location information to place them on the map and show thumbnails or larger previews. Its local photo index stores photo-library identifiers, creation and modification dates, and coordinates for photos containing location information. It does not copy original photos into the route database.
The App supports limited photo access: only photos made available by iOS can be accessed. Photo previews stored in iCloud Photos may be downloaded through Apple’s photo services when needed. The photo-map feature does not upload your photos to a developer-operated server.
Information you enter or import
The App stores titles, descriptions, coordinates, dates, categories, and display styles for saved map markers. It also processes route and marker information you choose to import from CSV files, and changes you make to existing records.
Settings and display data
The App stores preferences such as your map style, theme, recording mode, display options, and completion of the permission guide. It also creates derived data and caches needed to display maps, place names, activity summaries, widgets, and photo previews.
Information you send to us
If you contact us, we receive the information you choose to provide, such as your email address, message, screenshots, or diagnostic details. We use it to respond to your request and investigate the issue. Please avoid sending route histories or photos unless they are necessary for your request.
3. Device Permissions
| Permission | Purpose | Your choice |
| Location — While Using the App | Show your position and record location-based activity | Allow, limit, or deny through iOS settings |
| Location — Always | Support route and stay recording in the background | Optional upgrade; background recording is restricted without it |
| Motion & Fitness | Read and display daily steps | Denying access makes step information unavailable |
| Photos | Display location-tagged photos on the map and open previews | Requested when enabling the feature; choose limited or full access where supported |
| Notifications | Deliver local reminders related to recording | Allow or disable alerts and sounds in iOS settings |
The current App does not request camera, microphone, contacts, or advertising-tracking permission. Photos access is requested using Apple’s read/write authorization category, while the photo-map functionality described here reads photos and indexes their metadata.
You may change permissions at any time in iOS Settings. Denying a permission affects the features that depend on it. Withdrawing permission does not automatically delete information already stored or exported.
4. Other Service Providers
Apple location and search services
The App uses Apple services to search for places and convert coordinates into place information. Search text, relevant coordinates or map-region information, and technical request data may be sent to Apple to provide these results. Apple explains its location-service processing in [Location Services & Privacy](https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/data/en/location-services/).
iCloud and Apple platform services
When you use the backup feature, the App saves CSV copies of route and marker records locally and attempts to save copies to your iCloud Drive if it is available. This is file backup, not automatic live synchronization of the App’s database. Apple also provides iCloud Photos retrieval and device-level backup services according to your settings. Apple’s handling of these services is described in its [Privacy Policy](https://www.apple.com/legal/privacy/en-ww/).
Service providers may process information in countries other than your own. Their notices explain applicable processing locations, retention practices, and transfer protections. Local storage in the App does not mean that all related service requests remain on your device.
5. Widgets, Live Activities, and Notifications
The App shares selected information with its own widget extension through an on-device shared container. This can include your latest coordinates, altitude, direction, daily distance, hourly summaries, and a map snapshot.
During an exercise session, Live Activities can display information such as the activity type, elapsed time, distance, average speed, and altitude on supported system surfaces. Local notifications may display recording reminders. Depending on your device settings, some information may be visible when your device is locked or to someone viewing your screen. You can manage widgets, Live Activities, and notification previews through the available iOS controls.
6. Exports, Backups, and Sharing
You can export route and marker records as CSV files or share them using the system sharing interface. Exported files may contain precise locations, times, and personal notes. Recipients and services you select will receive the files you share and handle them under their own policies.
CSV exports are readable files and are not separately password-protected or encrypted by the App. Keep them in a location you trust. Copies saved to Files, iCloud Drive, another app, or another person are separate from the App’s database.
7. Retention and Deletion
Saved routes and markers remain in the App’s local storage until you delete them or remove the App’s stored data. There is no automatic time-based expiry for these saved records. Photo metadata and derived display data may remain locally until refreshed or removed with App data.
You can delete supported route records, exercise records, and map markers using the App’s management controls. You can revoke Photos access to prevent further access to your library, but revoking access or hiding photos is not a guarantee that every previously stored metadata entry is immediately erased.
Deleting the App through iOS removes its main local App data; offloading the App preserves data. Exported files, iCloud Drive copies, system backups, and copies shared with others may remain and must be managed separately. Deleting a record in the App does not retrospectively delete those copies. Removing the App does not delete the original photos in your photo library.
Information processed by Apple is retained according to their applicable policies and controls. If you contact us, we retain correspondence as needed to resolve your request and meet applicable obligations.
8. Security
The App relies on iOS application isolation, device access controls, and the protections provided by the platform and service providers. No storage or transmission method can be guaranteed completely secure. Protect your device and Apple Account, and consider the location details included in backups, exports, widgets, and screenshots before sharing them.
9. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of personal information, restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent, and complain to a data protection authority.
10. Children’s Privacy
The app is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy when the App’s features, data practices, or applicable requirements change. The revised Policy will show an updated date. We will provide additional notice or request consent where required by applicable law.
