I've decided to finally use my stash of black pleather and get around to attempting to make cute doll bags! I know pleather sucks, but I think it's better that I start with something cheap before attempting actual leather. I have attempted to make bags twice before, once semi-successfully, but I'd still consider myself a whole beginner to the point of not really having any experience.
For this project I'm planning to make this bag from Amavel in 1/3 scale.
Honestly, I had trouble finding a pre-made pattern for this, so I just made my own with a lot of measuring and adjusting. If anyone wants the pattern, let me know. This definitely isn't gonna be a tutorial but I don't mind scanning the pattern and posting it here if anyone wants to try making the bag too!
I made a set of the pattern pieces without seam allowance to tape together to make a sort of 3D draft, since I was admittedly too lazy to make a cotton draft.
Personally I think it looks pretty decent so I'm hoping that means the actual bag is good too!
So far my progress has gone up to cutting all the pieces out in pleather and hemming some of the ones that needed it, plus making the winged heart piece.
I'm planning on making a few other lolita-inspired bags once I finish this one, primarily 1/3 versions of this Angelic Pretty bag (a project I'd attempted before but dropped) as well as something like this jirai bag.
The bag flap is fully constructed and attached to the back piece! I had to try a few ways of putting the flap together before I got it to look how I wanted but I'm decently satisfied with it even though it's not exactly the same as the original bag.
The only thing left to do is connect all the pieces (front, sides, bottom) and make the strap. I did run into one issue; I discovered that hot glue absolutely does NOT stick to the smooth side of leather, so the wings detached from the heart randomly and now I need to find a different glue. I'm thinking of trying E6000.
To be continued . . .
