History of Melrose Park

Right before its construction in 1882, and before it was officially founded in 1873, Melrose park was a simple meadow with long wild grass that bent along the rim of the wind, with wild farm chickens, foxes, and other smaller wild animals that proved to be a sign no civilization currently operated in the wild meadows of northwest Chicago suburb, Melrose Park. The only people currently living nearby were a group of Indians who soon travelled west, leaving behind Indian Burial Mounds, as well as other Indian villages. The last group of Indians reported in the area was around 1900.

Since its fast development over the last one hundred years, Melrose Park was one heiled as a safe suburb to live in, and one of the most affluent with a historical residency of mostly Italian-Americans in the area. Melrose Park is still a fantastic place to live, despite its crime rates. There is still much life in this gorgeous historical town.
