# Privacy Policy · Mello

Mello is designed with privacy in mind. Your Mello journal is stored locally on your device and is not sent to us.
Mello is a self-directed alcohol-tracking and reflection app intended for adults of legal drinking age.
## Who provides Mello
Mello is provided by **John Halley**, who is the data controller for any personal information that Mello itself receives, such as information you choose to send when contacting support.

## Your journal and personal information
Your Mello journal is stored locally in the app on your device.
This may include information such as:
- drinking entries
- estimated costs
- your personal reasons for drinking less
- notes and reflections
- messages to your future self
- feelings and check-ins
- weekly intentions
- favourites
- pause sessions and pause check-ins
- app preferences and settings
Mello does not send this journal information to us.
Mello does not require you to create an account.
Mello does not use advertising.
Mello does not use third-party analytics SDKs.
Mello does not track you across other apps or websites.
## Storage and retention
Your Mello journal remains on your device until you choose to delete it or remove the app.
Mello uses protections provided by iOS to help protect information stored within the app.
Mello does not operate a server containing a copy of your journal.
If you delete the app, reset or lose your device, or otherwise lose access to its local data, your journal may not be recoverable.
You should protect your device using a passcode, Face ID or Touch ID where available.
## Your control over your information
You can edit or delete individual information within Mello, including drink entries, notes and messages to yourself.
You can also use **Export My Journal** in Settings to create an export file on your device.
Mello does not upload this export. If you choose to save, share or send the exported file using another app or service, that service may process it according to its own privacy policy.
You can use **Delete All My Local Information** in Settings to remove locally stored Mello information, including your journal, settings, favourites, messages and pending reminders.
Deletion cannot be undone.
Because Mello does not receive or store your journal on its servers, we cannot remotely access, retrieve or delete your journal for you.
## Purchases
Purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store.
Mello uses Apple's StoreKit framework to determine whether you have access to paid features and to restore purchases.
Mello does not receive your payment card details.
Apple processes payment and transaction information according to Apple's own privacy practices.
Deleting information from Mello or deleting the app does not automatically cancel, refund or alter an App Store purchase.
## Notifications
Mello may offer optional reminders and notifications.
Notifications are only enabled after you give permission through iOS.
Mello's reminders are scheduled on your device and are not used for advertising or tracking.
You can change notification permissions at any time through your device settings.
## External links
Mello may contain links to support pages, health resources, privacy information or other third-party websites.
When you open an external link, you leave Mello and the third party's own privacy policy and practices will apply.
Mello is not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party websites or services.
## Contacting support
If you contact Mello by email, we receive the email address you use and any information you choose to include in your message.
Please do not include sensitive journal information unless it is genuinely necessary for your support request.
Support correspondence is used only to respond to your request, provide support, protect the app from misuse where necessary, and operate Mello.
Support correspondence is kept only for as long as reasonably necessary for these purposes or where retention is required by law.
Where applicable data protection law applies, we process support correspondence on the basis of our legitimate interests in providing and maintaining customer support and operating Mello.

## Your data protection rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights relating to personal information that we hold about you.
These may include rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability of your personal information, or to object to certain processing.
These rights mainly apply to information that we actually receive, such as support correspondence.
Because Mello does not receive your locally stored journal information, we cannot provide a server copy of your journal or remotely delete it. You control this information directly through the app and your device.

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. In Ireland, the supervisory authority is the Data Protection Commission.
## Children
Mello is intended for adults of legal drinking age.
Mello is not designed for or directed at children.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app.
## Health information
Mello is a self-directed wellbeing and reflection tool.
Mello does not provide medical advice, diagnosis or treatment and is not a substitute for professional healthcare.
Information you enter about your drinking or wellbeing remains locally on your device and is not sent to us.
## Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy if Mello's features, technology or privacy practices change.
When we make changes, the updated policy will show a new effective date.
