The Melfort Minor Softball Association (MMSA) is passionate about softball!
We are the local minor softball association for Melfort and area.
IMPORTANT INFO REGARDING THE 2027 SEASON
I know it feels like the ball season has just wrapped up, however, Softball Saskatchewan has made a few significant changes to their operations that greatly affect our Association.
This year our declaration to be an "A" Provincial level team is required to be submitted by Sept. 8th instead of in the spring. Last year when we applied, we made a commitment to honor that declaration for a 2 year period. Our Association has agreed to fulfill this 'A' level commitment for our U13A and U15A team again for the 2027 ball season. The status of this will be re-evaluated at the end of next season and changes can be made going forward if need be after that. The decision to enter into 'A' Provincials is very difficult as a rural Association who is trying to stay competitive and many factors were taken into consideration for this season.
Our U11 team will likely enter into B Provincials again but this does not need to be decided until the spring.
Our U17 Program will enter into 'B' Provincials.
We will run 'B' Provincial Teams at both the U13 and U15 age groups (IF NUMBERS ALLOW)
If there is interest, we would run a U19 'B' team
The deadline for PLAYER RELEASES/DISTRICT TRANSFERS has also been moved up to OCTOBER 1st.
This means that although we may not all be in the head space of thinking about softball for next year, we do need to get some planning done right now for us to successfully prepare for the 2027 season.
MMSA'S PLAN:
- We are currently accepting Coaching Applications for the 2027 Spirit Season in the following age groups: U11, U13A, U13B, U15A, U15B, U17B. The deadline to apply to coach is Sept. 25th.
Registration for the 2027 season is OPEN. The deadline to register is Sept 30th. IT IS EXTEMELY IMPORTANT that you get your player registered to help us with our planning. No payment will need to be made at this time.
- We plan to host an ID CAMP this fall (Date TBD).
- More planning is needed- however we would like to offer age group specific winter training/practices for those interested in playing higher level ball. These training sessions will be planned after coach selection and the ID Camps.
- Official Tryouts will still be held in the New Year the same as always. (Likely January/February).
WHAT THIS MEANS FOR FAMILIES RIGHT NOW:
- If you would like to put your name in to coach- do so through the link before Sept. 25th.
- Use the Registration link and get your player registered before Sept 30th! You NEED to do this if your player plans to tryout for an ‘A’ team. If your player does not make the ‘A’ team, they will be released back to their Home Association.
- Stay tuned about ID Camps and Training.
- If you are from outside of Melfort, you NEED to get a release from your Home Association before October 1st.
If you have any questions or concerns please reach out and we will do the best we can to answer!
NOTE THAT THERE IS A NEW PLAYER RELEASE FORM. Read it closely regarding the Player Protection rule. If you have registered on a Spirit Provincial team 2 years in a row, only part of the form is required.
