Six The Musical:
The Queens & Where You Know Them From
The Queens & Where You Know Them From
Before we’ve even had the chance to miss it, Six The Musical is set to make its return to Australia in three months' time, and today we found out who’ll be leaping onto the stage as Henry the Eighth’s six wives.
The Queens
Divorced.
Strutting into the fiery, sassy role of Catherine of Aragon is Kimberley Hodgson. Most recently, we saw Hodgson proving her versatility and dexterity as a performer playing Anita in West Side Story On Sydney Harbour. Hodgson is also fresh off the heels of playing Gigi in Miss Saigon, and has additionally appeared in Mary Poppins, Frozen and Aladdin. As if her time in the industry wasn’t impressive enough, Hodgson also originated the role of Brianna in Australian musical FANGIRLS which is now on its way to the West End.
Beheaded.
As the fabulous and hilarious Anne Boleyn, we have the indomitable force that is Deirdre Khoo! Having set alight the role of Janet Weiss in the Australian Tour of The Rocky Horror Show for the past year and a half, this one promises to be an absolute firecracker. Khoo’s vocal, comedic and emotional skill set makes us very excited to see how her interpretation of Boleyn will explode. In addition to establishing herself as Australia’s Janet, Khoo has also appeared in Once and paid a visit to A Christmas Carol between tours with Rocky Horror.
Died.
As the ballard-belting Jane Seymour, we get to welcome back Loren Hunter! Returning to the role that she played in both the pre and post-pandemic cast, Hunter garnered the love of so many Aussies with her rendition of “Heart of Stone”. For the number that many conceived as the snoozer of the Six soundtrack, Hunter redefined the five minute song and induced tears from the audience every night. Hunter’s additional theatre accolades include productions such as King Kong, Strictly Ballroom, Georgy Girl and Wicked, proving herself a pro in the industry.
Divorced.
The next queen to grace the stage is Zelia Rose Kitoko as Anna of Cleves! Alongside her flourishing career as a burlesque artist that has brought her all over the world, Kitoko has also balanced a presence in the Australian musical theatre scene. Her experience encompasses productions such as Hamilton, where she was the swing for all three Schyler sisters, and Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812, where she played the role of Hélène.
Beheaded.
Our second returning queen comes in the form of our reigning Katherine Howard, Chelsea Dawson! After stepping into the glittery hot pink heel in the post-pandemic cast (following Courtney Monsma), she’s snatched up quite a fan base with her performance of “All You Wanna Do”. Between her time with Six, Dawson appeared in MAMMA MIA! and originated the role of Hope in Aussie original musical Zombie!. We are so keen to see her back in the hot pink!
Survived.
As the survivor Catherine Parr, we have & Juliet’s Judith, Giorgia Kennedy! While you may recognize her as the ensemble member who perches on the stage with a cup of tea in hand during the pre-show, she is also the cover for Juliet Capulet. At every opportunity, Kennedy makes the character her own and shines in the pop jukebox musical with a soaring, slick vocal quality. Kennedy has also appeared in Jagged Little Pill, which doubled as her stage debut.
The Swings
But just for you tonight, we’re divorced, beheaded, live!
In one of the most exciting cast returns, we are elated to be welcoming back Chiara Assetta to her role of dance captain and swing! Assetta made a name for herself in the previous Australian tour for covering all six queens during her time in the company, an accolade to her professionalism and skill. Since then, she has appeared in MAMMA MIA! as their dance captain and swing, and was the choreographer for Zombie!.
Also swinging into the Six company is Gabriella Boumford, leaping into a role that’s certainly not unfamiliar to her! Boumford recently held the same position while at sea, appearing in Six with Norwegian Cruise Lines as the swing for Catherine of Aragon, Anna of Cleves and Catherine Parr. We can’t wait to see what this second run through the renaissance will bring!
Thalia Smith also joins the team as a swing, adding another notch to the belt of this remarkable company. Recently appearing in Beauty and the Beast as the assistant dance captain and Babette cover, Smith’s resume also boasts Frozen, MAMMA MIA! and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, to name just a few! A rocket of energy and enthusiasm, we eagerly await Smith’s take on the queens.
To top off this thrilling announcement, we get to welcome back yet another returning cast member in Cristina D’Agostino! With a title almost as long as her impressive resume, D’Agostino will be the resident choreographer, the assistant to the director and the alternate swing in this production! At the moment, D’Agostino is tearing up the floor as Cha Cha in Grease, and has also appeared in shows such as Guys and Dolls, Jersey Boys, Matilda and Strictly Ballroom.
