Anniversary of the Islamic Revolution
February 11 (22 Bahman in the Iranian calendar) marks the anniversary of the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran, when the Pahlavi monarchy was overthrown and the Islamic Republic was established under the leadership of Ayatollah Khomeini. Every year, the day is commemorated with nationwide rallies and speeches, especially in Tehran's Azadi Square. The event is organized by the government and is meant to demonstrate public support for the revolution and its ideals.
