Mehdi Shamshirband

Ph.D. student in Electrical and Computer Engineering

About Me

Mehdi received his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering - Power at Islamic Azad University and his Master's degree in Electrical Engineering - Power Systems at Azarbaijan Shahid Madani University in 2016 and 2018, respectively. The title of his Master's thesis was "Simultaneous optimal operation of electric vehicles and renewable resources in power microgrids considering uncertainties" under the supervision of Dr. Javad Salehi and co-supervision of Professor Sajad Najafi Ravadanegh.

Now, he is pursuing his Ph.D. study in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. Mehdi also is a member Canada Excellence Research Chair in Smart, Sustainable and Resilient Communities and Cities (CERC) and Power Electronics and Energy Research Group (PEER) at Concordia University. The majority of his research is on Energy Management, demand response, and smartening the electricity network with the use of electric vehicles in the presence of renewable energy sources. Mehdi also has good experience in the industry and distribution line by completing various projects including development and establishment, maintenance, and equipping the electrical distribution networks and feeders when he was working on Peyman Ara Bargh Arsha company (20kv - 220v).

He has received various licenses including Compact Unit Sub Station issued by the Iranian Association of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IAEEE), Industrial Electrician 18-Month Premium Plan issued by Instructor Training Center & Technical and Vocational Researches, and etc.

In addition to academic and industrial activities, Mehdi is also active in sports. He is a professional mountaineer and he has been climbed many peaks including the top 3 highest peaks in Iran. Listening to music, being in a group and speaking with new people, and working on charities as a volunteer are his other interests.

Research Interest

Mehdi's main research interests include Smart Grids, Electric Vehicles, Electricity Markets, Demand Response, and Renewable Energy Resources. Currently, he is working on a charging and discharging plan for electric vehicles with the presence of renewable energy resources considering traffic congestions, charging stations, and other constraints.
