LONGCHENPA
The Great Perfection
Meditations on Awakening — Inspired by Longchenpa
The awakened mind is primordially pure
Reality itself is free from coming and going
There is nothing to adopt
Nothing to reject
There is no need to strive
When one rests naturally
The sun and moon of clarity arise by themselves
...
No need to block sensory experience
No need to grasp at the mind
When one does not stray from the natural state
There is spontaneous effortless awareness
Thoughts arise
Yet they leave no trace
Like waves dissolving into the vast ocean
No hope
No fear
Simply rest in what is
...
Meditation is not a technique
Not an effort
It is not an act of concentration
It is simply the natural state
Like space
It cannot be fabricated
Altered
Or contained
In this vastness
Laxity and agitation dissolve effortlessly
Clarity arises naturally
...
Thoughts do not need to be suppressed or rejected
They are simply the energy of awareness itself
No need to fight against them
Instead see their true nature
They arise and vanish in the same moment
Leaving no trace
Without rejecting samsara
See it as timeless awareness
...
There is no meditation to maintain
Only the ongoing flow of clarity
Sensory appearances and mind are not separate
Everything is already perfectly settled
Unmoving
Uncontrived
Like space itself
This natural awareness is vast
Luminous
Beyond effort
...
Samsara and Nirvana are not two
They are inseparable expressions of the same reality
There is no acceptance
No rejection
All things abide in natural evenness
In this state
Buddhas and ordinary beings are equal
Form and emptiness are equal
Appearance and awareness are inseparable
...
No need to seek enlightenment elsewhere
It has never been absent
No need to force realization through effort
It arises naturally
See directly
There is nothing to cultivate
Nothing to attain
There is no goal
No striving
No path
This recognition itself is the ultimate fruition
...
There is no inside or outside
No self or other
What arises arises naturally
What abides abides naturally
What is liberated is liberated naturally
...
Samsara is an illusion
Yet it appears due to causes and conditions
When awareness rests in its own place
Cause and effect lose their hold
Beyond birth and death
Beyond movement and stillness
This is the true expanse
Of uncontrived presence
...
Even now awareness is free and unbounded
There is no need for effort
Only the recognition of what already is
If thoughts arise
Let them be
They are already free
If you hold on to nothing
What can bind you
...
In the state of spontaneous presence
Everything resolves by itself
This is the natural expanse of pure awareness
Free from elaboration
Free from grasping
The Great Perfection is not something to be achieved
It is already so
...
Rest deeply in this uncontrived openness
Like a person who has nothing to do
Nothing to accomplish
Let go of struggle
Simply be as you are
Free
Open
Vast
...
There is no need to suppress
No need to strive
Rest naturally
This is the supreme meditation
