LONGCHENPA
The Great Perfection
Meditations on Awakening — Inspired by Longchenpa
When all phenomena resolve into infinite evenness
Nothing remains to be affirmed or denied
Whether or not awareness is self-arising
It makes no difference
Whether or not you follow the footsteps of past masters
It makes no difference
There is no need to evaluate
No need to strive
No need to attain
Awareness simply is
...
If you think about it
You create concepts
If you meditate on it
You fabricate effort
If you describe it
You are bound by words
If you seek it
It remains distant
But if you leave it as it is
There is only the natural state
Of pure being
...
Samsara and Nirvana are not separate
Awareness itself is unobstructed
Seamless
Naked
It does not come
It does not go
It simply remains as it is
If left uncontrived
It is vast like the sky
Open
Boundless
Effortlessly present
...
If you try to affirm it
It eludes you
If you try to negate it
It is undeniable
It exists
Yet it does not exist
It arises
Yet it leaves no trace
It is seen
Yet cannot be grasped
Recognize this
Let go of all fixation
...
The true nature of awareness does not require effort
You do not need to cultivate freedom
It has never been absent
You do not need to fabricate rest
There is no abiding
No departing
Nothing needs to be maintained
Nothing needs to be sought
What remains is naked effortless awareness
The spontaneous radiance of being
...
Samsara and Nirvana are not separate realms
They are both expressions of the same awareness
Within this expanse all perceptions arise naturally
Like a face reflected in a mirror
There is nothing to reject
Nothing to hold onto
Everything resolves in its own place
Spontaneously free
...
Within the awakened mind
There are no boundaries
No duality
No grasping
There is no need to force stillness
Even movement arises and dissolves effortlessly
There is no need to suppress thoughts
They are already free
There is no need to fixate on bliss or emptiness
Both arise naturally within the great expanse
...
Whether something is good or bad
Let it be
Whether something is present or absent
Let it be
Whether realization arises or does not arise
Let it be
Awareness does not cling to realization
It is already realized
Already free
...
Do not trap this awareness in meditation techniques
Do not force it into an empty framework
Do not search for it elsewhere
It has never been lost
Do not fear arising thoughts
They are already self-liberated
...
Do not meditate on phenomena
Do not manipulate consciousness
Do not anticipate or chase after thoughts
Do not hold onto the present
Simply remain
In the vast spacious expanse of awareness
...
When everything is left as it is
Nothing is bound
Nothing is freed
There is no striving
No seeking
No effort
Awareness unfolds spontaneously
Beyond limits
Beyond concepts
Beyond time
...
Whatever appears is merely a reflection
A display of emptiness and awareness inseparable
Look deeply
There is no separation
Between what is seen
And the awareness that sees it
This is the supreme realization
The recognition that nothing has ever been separate
...
Good and bad
Arising and ceasing
They are equal in the vast space of awareness
Liberation is not something to attain
It has always been present
Rest naturally
In the spontaneous presence
Of naked consciousness
...
Let go of struggle
Let go of effort
Remain as you are
Free
Open
Unbound
This is the Great Perfection
...
Whatever arises is already free
Nothing to grasp
Nothing to resist
Rest in the vastness
Of awareness itself
