Media Sweep Privacy Policy
Last updated: 9 October 2026
Media Sweep is a browser extension for Microsoft Edge and Chromium-based browsers. It helps users scan webpage images and save selected images and videos from supported websites, including Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
Information handled
Media Sweep processes information needed for these features:
- Website content: images, videos, media URLs, captions and related metadata, including dimensions, formats and filenames.
- Account information: account/profile identifiers, names and usernames associated with the selected media or supported website session.
- Authentication information: session-related tokens, CSRF parameters and cookie-derived request parameters used by supported social platforms. Media Sweep does not ask users to enter social-account passwords into the extension.
- Page and request context: URLs and titles of scanned pages, supported profile/page URLs, relevant API request parameters and capture timestamps.
- Region information: region-related parameters supplied by TikTok requests, such as region or priority_region. The extension does not request GPS access.
- Preferences and download activity: language, theme, image filters, filename/folder settings, batch settings and download progress/status.
Purpose and when processing occurs
This information is used to scan and preview images, find the requested media, make the necessary website requests and save selected files to the user's device.
Image scanning starts when the user chooses Scan. On supported social websites, the extension may observe relevant API requests and obtain session parameters while those sites are open, including before a download has started. This supports the social download features and does not provide a separate password login system.
Local storage and retention
Preferences and certain session/request parameters are stored in the extension's local browser storage. Some request templates, page context, download status and image metadata are held in browser session storage or memory.
Local information can remain until it is replaced, cleared or the extension is removed. Stored credentials are not automatically erased just because a download finishes. Browser session storage is temporary and is cleared according to the browser's session behavior.
Removing Media Sweep clears its extension-local storage according to the browser's behavior. Downloaded files remain under the user's control and are not deleted by removing the extension.
Network requests and sharing
Requests required for scanning or downloading are sent to the relevant website, API or media/CDN server. These requests may include the session parameters required by that platform. Media Sweep does not operate a developer-controlled server for collecting browsing data or usage analytics.
Media Sweep does not sell user data, use it for advertising or unrelated profiling, or use it to determine creditworthiness or for lending. Information is used only to provide the stated media scanning and download features. Its use and transfer of user data complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Optional external services
Choosing the image-search action opens Google Lens with the selected image URL. Choosing Feedback opens Google Forms, and choosing the PayPal donation link opens PayPal. These actions are optional. Those services handle information under their own policies, and the developer receives information the user voluntarily submits through the feedback form or donation service. Media Sweep does not process payment details itself.
User controls and security
Users choose which pages to scan, which media to download and which optional links to open. Preferences can be changed in the extension's settings. Users can disable or remove the extension, or restrict its site access through browser settings; restricting access may prevent some features from working.
Locally stored credentials are restricted to trusted extension contexts. Supported content-script callers receive the UI language rather than direct access to credential storage. Authentication parameters are used for the relevant supported website requests and are not published or sent to a developer-operated collection server.
Contact and changes
For support or privacy questions, including requests concerning information voluntarily submitted to the developer, contact the developer through the Media Sweep feedback form: https://forms.gle/4f1xR3y6Egq8REjy9. Do not submit passwords or authentication tokens through this form.
This policy will be updated when Media Sweep's data practices change. The current version and its update date will be published on this page.
