1. Overview
MediaSurf - Video Downloader (“MediaSurf,” “the App,” “we,” or “us”) helps users detect media resources loaded by web pages and save user-selected files to their devices.
This Privacy Policy explains what information the App accesses, how that information is used, and how advertising providers may process information when ads are displayed.
2. Media Detection and Local Processing
When you enter, paste, share, or open a web address in MediaSurf, the App may examine the page address, network requests made by that page, and related media information such as media URLs, file types, file names, and file sizes.
This processing is necessary to identify media resources available for download and takes place locally on your device.
MediaSurf does not use your visited page addresses, detected media links, browsing history, download history, or downloaded files for advertising. We do not intentionally send this information to our advertising providers or our servers.
Media detection is limited to pages that you choose to open or process within the App. MediaSurf does not monitor network traffic from other apps or collect your general browsing activity.
3. Downloaded Files and Local App Data
Files selected for download are saved to your device. Download tasks, settings, and related records may be stored locally so the App can display and manage your downloads.
The Android WebView used to display websites may store cookies, cache files, and other website data on your device. You can remove local App data through MediaSurf, where available, through Android system settings, or by uninstalling the App.
MediaSurf does not upload your downloaded files to our servers.
If you choose to paste a link from your clipboard, the App processes that link only to open the page or detect media resources. MediaSurf does not intentionally read or store unrelated clipboard content.
4. Advertising and Information Collected by Advertising Providers
MediaSurf uses Google AdMob and the Google Mobile Ads SDK to display advertisements.
When an advertisement is requested, displayed, or interacted with, Google and its advertising partners may automatically collect or receive:
- Your device’s IP address, which may be used to estimate its general location;
- Advertising identifiers, such as the Android Advertising ID;
- App Set ID and other device or account-related identifiers where applicable;
- App launches, ad impressions, taps, video views, and other interactions;
- Diagnostic and performance information, such as launch time, hang rate, errors, and energy usage;
- Device and App information, such as device type, operating system, language, App version, and network type; and
- Consent choices and advertising preferences.
This information may be used to:
- Display and deliver advertisements;
- Provide personalized ads where permitted and consented to;
- Provide contextual, non-personalized, or limited ads;
- Measure ad performance and conversions;
- Limit how often an advertisement is shown;
- Detect fraud, invalid traffic, abuse, and security incidents; and
- Maintain and improve advertising services.
Advertising providers may combine information collected through MediaSurf with information obtained from other apps, websites, or services, subject to applicable law and the user’s consent and device settings.
Google’s handling of advertising data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy and its explanation of how Google uses information for advertising.
The advertising partners used for a particular user may vary by region and advertising availability. Where required, the current advertising partners are identified in the consent or privacy choices screen shown within the App.
5. Personalized Advertising and Consent
Where required by applicable law, MediaSurf presents a consent or privacy choices screen before requesting personalized advertising.
Depending on your choices and region:
- Personalized ads may use identifiers and activity information to select advertisements based on inferred interests;
- Non-personalized ads may be selected using limited contextual information; or
- Limited ads may be displayed with reduced data processing.
Non-personalized or limited advertisements may still require processing of information such as an IP address, device information, and basic ad interactions for ad delivery, security, fraud prevention, and measurement.
You may review or change your advertising choices through the Privacy Options entry in the App, where available. You can also reset or delete your Android Advertising ID through your device settings and manage Google advertising preferences through My Ad Center.
6. Device Permissions
Depending on your Android version and the features you use, MediaSurf may request:
- Internet access: To open websites, download files, and load advertisements.
- File or media access: To save, open, rename, or delete downloaded files at your request.
- Notifications: To show download progress and completion status.
Permissions are used only for the features described above. You can manage them through Android system settings, although disabling a permission may prevent the related feature from working.
7. Third-Party Websites
When you visit a website through MediaSurf, your device communicates directly with that website. The website may receive information normally sent during a web request, such as your IP address, browser information, cookies, and information you submit to the website.
Third-party websites operate under their own terms and privacy policies. MediaSurf does not control their content, security, or data practices. You should review the privacy policy of any website you visit.
8. Information You Provide to Us
MediaSurf does not require you to create an account.
If you contact us for support, we may receive your email address and any information you voluntarily include in your message. We use that information only to respond to your request, provide support, prevent abuse, and comply with legal obligations.
Please avoid including downloaded files, private media links, account credentials, or other sensitive information in support messages.
9. Sharing and Sale of Information
We do not sell your visited page addresses, detected media links, browsing history, download history, downloaded files, or support correspondence.
Advertising-related information is transmitted to Google AdMob and applicable advertising partners for advertising, analytics, security, and fraud-prevention purposes as described above.
In some jurisdictions, personalized advertising may be legally described as “sharing,” “targeted advertising,” or a “sale” of personal information even when no money is paid specifically for that information. Where applicable, you may exercise an opt-out right through the App’s Privacy Options screen or by contacting us.
We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with applicable law, a valid legal request, or to protect users, the App, or others from fraud, abuse, or security threats.
10. Data Retention and Deletion
Locally stored settings, website data, and download records remain on your device until you delete them, clear the App’s data, or uninstall MediaSurf.
Downloaded files may remain on your device after the App is uninstalled and must be deleted using MediaSurf or your device’s file manager.
Support correspondence is retained only for as long as reasonably necessary to respond, maintain support records, prevent abuse, or comply with legal obligations. You may contact us to request its deletion.
Advertising providers retain advertising information according to their own privacy policies and retention practices. Requests concerning data controlled directly by Google or another advertising provider may need to be submitted to that provider.
11. Security and International Processing
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect information handled by the App. Information transmitted by the Google Mobile Ads SDK is encrypted in transit.
Advertising providers may process information on servers located outside your country or region. These providers are responsible for applying appropriate legal safeguards to their processing and international transfers.
No device, network, or storage method is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. Children’s Privacy
MediaSurf is not directed to children under 13 or under the minimum age required by applicable local law.
We do not knowingly use personalized advertising for children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through a support request, please contact us so that we can delete it.
13. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on your country or region, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to certain processing of your personal information, withdraw consent, or opt out of targeted advertising.
You may:
- Choose which pages and media resources MediaSurf processes;
- Clear local website and App data;
- Delete downloaded files and download records;
- Revoke App permissions through Android settings;
- Reset or delete your Android Advertising ID;
- Change available advertising consent choices; and
- Contact us regarding privacy requests or support correspondence.
We may need to verify a request before responding. Some advertising data is controlled directly by Google or another advertising provider and must be managed through that provider’s privacy controls.
14. Legal Bases for Processing
Where applicable, information is processed:
- With your consent, including for personalized advertising where required;
- To provide features that you request;
- For legitimate interests such as security, fraud prevention, basic advertising, and service maintenance, where those interests are not overridden by your rights; or
- To comply with legal obligations.
You may withdraw consent at any time, but withdrawal does not affect processing that occurred before consent was withdrawn.
15. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when the App’s features, advertising providers, or data practices change. The updated policy will show a new effective date. Material changes will be communicated through the App or its store listing where appropriate.
