Internal Funding Opportunities
TTU Undergraduate Scholar Funding ($1000)
- Only one project from the same lab group will be funded, the 'top' project will be chosen for funding
- Can be used to fund a research project or compensate a researcher
- Must present research project (Complete or Incomplete) at the TTU Undergraduate Research Conference in the Spring semester
- Must be an undergraduate at the time of the conference
Undergraduate Student Travel Funding (Any amount up to $1000)
- Must be presenting their own work at a conference
- Must present their scholarly work during the annual TTU Undergraduate Research Conference
- Submit early for your best chances at funding
Dr. Sarah Kulkofsky Scholarship ($500)
- Must be a full-time student
- Must be a Texas Tech undergraduate student engaged in a faculty guided research project in the social sciences
- Applications typically due in February
CoMC Graduate Student Research Funding ($1000)
- Can be used to fund a research project
- Cannot be used for conference travel or recipient pay
- Applications accepted throughout the year
Thomas Jay Harris Graduate Student Fellowships ($3000)
- Expected to write a thesis or dissertation on topics closely related to international communication
Bill & Avis Ross Graduate Research Award for Mass Communications ($1500)
- Cannot be used for conference travel or recipient pay
- Can be used for salaries, incentives, and other costs related to data collection
Graduate Student Research Support ($500-$1000)
- MA or PhD Student
- May be used for research related expenses
Graduate Student Travel Funding ($500, $450, $400)
- Must attend at least three professional development workshops sponsored by the Graduate School.
- $500 for Doctoral students admitted to candidacy, $450 for other Doctoral students, and $400 for Masters students.
- Only supports two nights in Texas or three nights outside of Texas
- Submit more than 30 days before travel
Graduate Student Fellowships ($3000-$5000/year)
- Applying to TTU graduate school for entry in the spring? Apply for these fellowships by January the year before you plan to enter. Otherwise you won't be able to apply for these internal fellowships until your second year.
- Application generally opens in November, winners announced in April, and awards dispersed in the following Fall semester.
Student Government Association Student Travel Funding ($500)
- Can only be used for conference travel expenses
- Must be submitted at least 21 days before the travel date
- Travel outside of the U.S. requires special approval that can take up to 30 days
Requesting Conference Travel Funding from a Department Chair (Usually < $500)
- Work with Dr. Bolls to request funding from a department chair
- Must be a student of or working in that specific department
- Dependant on department budget
External Funding Opportunities
National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Program ($138,000)
- Provides $34,000 to the Fellow and a cost-of-education allowance of $12,000 to the graduate degree-granting institution for three years.
- 1500 Anticipated Awards
- Relevant Research Areas: Communication, Physiological Psychology
- Senior Undergraduates and early Graduate Students are eligible to apply (Some Exceptions)

American Association of University Women (AAUW) Fellowship ($6,000-$30,000)
- Dissertation Fellowships offset a scholar’s living expenses while she completes her dissertation.
- The fellowship must be used for the final year of writing the dissertation.
- Applicants must have completed all course work, passed all preliminary examinations, and received approval for their research proposals or plans by the preceding November.
Facebook Fellowship Program ($84,000+)
- Relevant accepted areas of research: Computational Social Science & Online Communities and Well-Being
- Eligibility: Full-time PhD students who are currently involved in on-going research
- Two years of tuition and fees paid, a stipend of $37,000 each year, and up to $5,000 in conference travel support
