Média Caraïbes :
"How does one go from carpentry to painting? That's the question I'm asking myself..."
M. Steeve TABAR :
"I think that architect, carpenter, joiner, designer, painter, are professions in their own right but which come together because they are in the field of creation and there is a vision that one must have.
In that sense, I consider myself a visual artist, or more commonly, a plastic artist. I am not simply a painter; I work with wood, paint, and other types of materials, but with an intellectual approach, to push the individual to reflect and question, and if there is an answer in the work, all the better."
An artistic perspective at the service of sport, transmission and the territory.
Born in 1990 and originally from Guadeloupe, Mr. Steeve Tabar is gradually establishing himself as a unique figure on the Caribbean art scene. As a visual artist, he develops an approach rooted in his territory while engaging in dialogue with the world. His works question society, memory and identity, with a strong conviction: art must be a lever for education, transmission and mobilization of communities.
Beyond his creative career, Steeve Tabar is actively involved in local community life. In 2024, he conceived and coordinated, alongside the Rapid-Club, an original artistic project to celebrate the club's 60th anniversary:

« The footballer's gaze » : when art meets sport
With this group exhibition, Mr. Steeve Tabar wishes to demonstrate that art and sport can engage in dialogue, like the body and the mind.
He invites several artists including Mr. Ruddy Marc Roquelaure, a former footballer himself, as well as Ms. Agnès Francius, Ms. Rénalde Arendel and Mr. François Périac in order to propose works that go beyond simple aesthetic representation. Each person brings their own perspective on the place of sport in society, on discipline, solidarity, commitment and individual development.
The objective is twofold.:
• revitalize the club and its environment,
• to show that football can become a space for cultural, educational and civic exchange.
Through this project, Steeve Tabar affirms a strong conviction: art is not an end in itself, it participates in the formation of consciences and the common good.
In the context of this project, Mr. Steeve Tabar wishes to express his gratitude to Mrs. Maria Torrelli, France-Francophonie representative of the Accademia Italia in Arte nel Mondo, whose support enabled the integration of the project into the Italian catalogue.
This innovative initiative attracts the attention of the Accademia Italia in Arte nel Mondo, which contacts the artist personally.
The institution decided to include not only the works of Mr. Steeve Tabar, but also the exhibition project itself in its catalogue dedicated to new artistic dynamics:
« A journey into the world of visual arts at the dawn of the new millennium — the challenge of the century… between artistic intelligence and artificial intelligence ».
Recognizing the avant-garde nature of the project, the Academy awards Mr. Steeve Tabar the title of Honorary and Emeritus Grand Master. This distinction underlines his commitment to a conscious, responsible artistic freedom, open to the transformations of our time.
we quote
In the ethics of contemporary art, there is not a single voice, but a multitude of voices that rise independently and are constantly evolving, the fruits of a creativity that cannot flourish without respect for individual freedom, which each artist carries within him, at the very heart of his identity.
Art here is an educational exercise for future generations, and not simply a compositional expression as an end in itself.
You, dear Maestro, believe in intellectual independence and, through your work, you appeal to a natural aspiration, nurtured by the heritage of a culture that is born and grows in the harmony of precise family, community and social rules, which admit no alternative, and which naturally evolves towards an expression of personal maturity. This maturity always requires a rigorous confrontation between thought and action, between what is not.
His aspiration as a free and independent artist, liberated from social and ideological constraints, is embodied in the awareness of his fundamental rights, which must be integrated into the world of contemporary art, taking into account the substantial differences that have emerged during the first half of this century, notably the cultural clash between artistic intelligence nurtured by his innate creative genius (beyond his personal pictorial grammar and his fundamental role in this context) and emerging artificial intelligence.
For these reasons, the Italian Academy of Fine Arts “MEMBER OF THE WORLD CULTURAL ASSOCIATION” recognizes the work carried out by Maestro STEEVE TABAR, demonstrates, clearly and unequivocally, how his systems of composition present the greatest intellectual interest and are made available to the whole community through the catalogue of the Mondadori association entitled “VIAGGIO NEL MONDO DELLE ARTI VISIVE ALLE SOGLIE DEL NUOVO MILLENNIO” LA SFIDA DEL SECOLO....TRA L'INTELLIGENZA ARTÍSTICA E L'INTELLIGENZA ARTIFICIALE.
"But for me, what is most important is to enrich the artistic and cultural heritage of my island, and more broadly of the Caribbean, in order to participate in the evolution of world art."
(M. Steeve TABAR)
Artist's Vision
A vision serving Caribbean heritage
Despite this international recognition, Mr. Steeve Tabar's priority remains clear:
to enrich the artistic and cultural heritage of Guadeloupe and, more broadly, of the Caribbean.
For him, participating in the global art movement means above all valuing local talent, supporting collective initiatives and opening new perspectives for younger generations.
His journey illustrates a simple and powerful ambition: to make art a tool for elevation, social connection and hope.
Media Caraïbes congratulates this young Guadeloupean for his excellent work and encourages him to continue relentlessly.
