It's all been building to this, quite literally. Every season in Fortnite since Season 4 has ended with a giant, explosive live event, and Season 9's is nearly upon us. You may have noticed the giant robot being built over at Pressure Plant? You may have noticed how it was recently finished with a somewhat frightening amalgamation of a bunch of different classic Fortnite skins? You may also have noticed the monster that escaped Polar Peak and has been smashing up the map from time to time? And finally, there's that countdown above all the sky platforms. It's all coming to a head today, so here's what you need to know.
What is it? The robot and the monster are going to fight, and we're all going to watch. That's the basic gist, though there is still the possibility that we'll be able to influence the outcome in some way, shape or form. That seems less likely, however: it's much more likely that we're just going to express our loyalties through emotes and banners as we watch these two titans duke it out. Remember: not all seas monsters are evil, and not all pink robots are noble.
Where to Watch? This event will probably cover a larger geographical area than others before it. We know where the robot is going to start out: it's currently sitting at Pressure Plant, getting ready to go. We don't know exactly where the monster will make its landfall, but probably somewhere southish. And there is reason to believe that the locus of the action is going to be the vault in Loot Lake, where both Pressure Plant and Neo Tilted have apparently been drawing their energy. Beyond that, however, it's a little less clear where all this will be going down.
The choreography of the battle and the pacing were enough to keep players engaged beyond just a basic boxing match. Epic Games clearly planned out some key moments using the Fortnite Season 9 map, even letting the mech use the vault to gain a special power.

Your job is to keep an eye on the radar and if you detect a monster, rush to put him down! Also, you can play around in the lab and maybe create monsters on your own. Let's hurry and start this challenge! The city cannot protect itself from all these monsters.
Luckily, it's easy to control the giant robot and fight all the foes! You only need to use your mouse. Press the Left Click to select things around the lab and to attack while fighting. Also, you can click and drag to perform special attacks or repair the damage caused by the monsters. See? Saving the world is a piece of cake!
You have two tasks to complete! The first one is to check out the lab and create monsters. You can pick its body type, head, arms, and tails or wings. Go through every option and see if you can build the ultimate monster! You can always try again and design a new one so you can have plenty of tries.
Your second challenge is to watch the monster radar, and when an opponent is detected, go and defeat it! In battle, you will see your opponent's health meter and one for a special attack. Also, keep an eye on the health of your robot. To reduce the damage, keep your guard up and calculate your attacks carefully!

I wonder what else is hidden in plain sight? Since players could not interact with the event, all of this appears to be a massive send off for Season 9 and its futuristic theme. With Season 10 only a couple of weeks away, we cannot wait to see how this event impacts the future of Fortnite.

The Apple Watch didn't hurt the Patek Philippes and Audemars Piguets of the world. It seems to have helped widen the scope, making the concept of wristwear more ubiquitous. I think it's now fair to say that the Apple Watch is (probably) not a threat to the watches we all know and love. It's its own thing.
Which is why I decided to approach this story a little differently. I don't have my dive license. I don't run. My exercise routine is sporadic at best. What can I tell you about pushing this product to the limit that Jason Heaton or DC Rainmaker hasn't already said? So here's my view on the Apple Watch Ultra, through the lens of a traditional watch enthusiast. I've decided to revisit the format used by Ben in 2014, a few days after he handled the original Apple Watch for the first time.
And just to be clear, I wouldn't describe myself as averse to wearable technology. The Apple Watch has always been a significant part of any conversation in watches for me, but it has never been my focus. Although I'm typing this on a MacBook and my iPhone is sitting next to me, I've never owned an Apple Watch outside of review periods (I've worn the Series 2, the Series 5, and now the Series 8 and Ultra models as part of field tests).
For this story, I wore the Apple Watch Ultra off and on for nearly three months. There were a few times when I wore it for an entire day and other times when it only ended up on my wrist for a few hours before it was rotated out for one of my personal mechanical watches.
It Has Bells And Whistles Galore: Every smartwatch is full of all sorts of innovative new tech that most of us will never need, and the Apple Watch Ultra is perhaps the ultimate example of providing information that is likely unnecessary 90 percent of the time.
The Apple Watch Ultra is also water resistant up to 100 meters with diving capabilities certified by EN 13319 (the international standard for dive computers). It's able to withstand extreme temperatures between -4 F and 131 F (better the watch than me!). And there's even a siren that can reach up to 86 decibels (where it can supposedly be heard up to 600 feet away) and is easy to quickly set off and on by holding the new "Action Button" (more on it in a minute). The watch is a lifesaver and a party trick, all in one.
Other updates on Apple Watch Ultra include the biggest battery life yet for Apple Watch, with 36 hours of running autonomy on a single charge. The GPS performance has been reworked and updated with a new precision dual-signal link that connects to a combination of L1 and L5 signals, which should make it one of the more precise GPS systems available in any smartwatch. Cellular service is built in automatically with every Apple Watch Ultra, and two additional microphones (it has three in total) were added to the Ultra's case to account for wind noise reduction.
The Apple Watch Ultra shares a lot of details with the new Apple Watch Series Eight, including a particularly nifty new Compass complication with a waypoint/backtrack mechanism. I spent a decent bit of time talking about my experience using the waypoint/backtrack mechanism in my Series Eight review, so I won't dig too deep on that topic again here, but it really is a feature I enjoy and that I think I would find a solid use-case for (the one or two times a year I go hiking, that is). ff782bc1db
