As part of my final year in university, I brought to life one of my designs for a hypothetical concert of the singer Ashnikko. It is a robot costume with light-up elements as well as detachable cables and pigtails as part of the stage performance. This costume was part of a competition with Delfont Mackintosh Theatres, which I won.
The costume is made entirely out of faux leather which I wore down to give it a more metallic, robot-like effect.
The lower leg lights are made out of a sew-on circuit with a switch. The upper legs are made out of fibre optic fabric that turns on and off by screwing a lightbulb. The LED lights from the wig also turn on and off with a switch hidden in the detachable element of the wig.
The biggest-than-life wig was achieved by layering metres of yarn into the pigtails as well as the hair of the wig.
Other light-up elements such as cables are coated in glow-in-the-dark paint in order to save costs on electronics.
