A Thank You Message from Keary, Colin & Adam...

8 weeks today, Brian passed away. It has been and continues to be a daily challenge to "March Forth", but Colin, Adam and I are doing just that. We have been supported in this process by the ongoing love of our family, friends, coworkers and community members. Over the past weeks, I have contemplated the process of expressing my gratitude. The process of writing and mailing individual thank you cards feels emotional, daunting and overwhelming, partly due to the sheer number of people that have reached out and helped us through this difficult time. For that reason, we are expressing our appreciation here.

Since Brian's diagnosis in June of 2019, we have been surrounded by an army of support. He was always so appreciative of the expressions of encouragement and love. Brian would be visibly uplifted by each message, photo, email, act of kindness, etc. This support system is as much responsible for his ability to outlive his initial prognosis as much as his medical treatment, maybe even more. He literally did not fight alone.

When Brian passed on March 4th, Colin, Adam and I were at home with him, holding his hand as he passed. He was surrounded by family and friends and expert nurses (both family and hospice) who allowed his passing to be comfortable, peaceful and on his terms. We are so grateful to all who showed up that day and throughout the following days. It is amazing to me how my friends and family, dropped everything to be here and stayed here. You lived it with us. You went without sleep, cried with us, held us and gave us space. You knew what we needed when we didn't. We were surrounded in a blanket of love, safety and comfort the entire time. It was so special.

During the days at the funeral home, as well as at the service, we were humbled by the amount of people who came to share their love and appreciation for Brian. Being able to see just how far reaching Brian's connections are is a testament to the the person he was and the good he put out into the world. His legacy will continue through all of you.

Over the past weeks, we have received countless cards, gifts and messages of love and support. The phrase "Thank You" just does not feel like enough. We are appreciative, grateful and often at a loss for words. Thank you to our family and friends who continue to be there for us. Thank you to the Mt. Lebanon and Upper St. Clair communities for all of the expressions of support. Thank you to all of the teachers and administrators at USC who continue to support Colin and Adam. Thank you to the Mt. Lebanon School District, our "work family". The Lebo Family really does not fight alone. Thank you to all who have sent thoughtful gifts, shared their time, opened their homes or just reached out to talk. Thank you to all who have shared what Brian has meant to them. We have heard stories that we never knew about things that Brian did for people. Thank you for giving us the gift of those memories.

The loss of Brian has left an immense hole in our hearts as well as the hearts of many, some of whom we have never met. As hard as that is for us, it is also a comfort that the loss we all fell represents the good that is Brian. As difficult at it is to learn how to continue on without him, the love and support that surrounds us is a reminder that we will never be without him. For that we are and continue to be thankful for you all.

We hope that our gratitude is communicated in this message. Please feel free to share this message in any way you would like so that it reaches those who we know as well as those who we do not. We are thankful to all of you.

The McFeeley Strong team will be participating in American Cancer Society's Relay for Life Mt. Lebanon on June 11th at Mt. Lebanon High School stadium from 10:00am - 10:00pm. Brian was able to fight for so long due to the amazing medical care he had access to. Fundraising for continued research in pursuit of new treatments and someday a cure for pancreatic cancer will continue to be a mission for us. We relay this year in loving memory of Brian. Below is the link to Keary's fundraising page. Please feel free to share this link, make a donation, join the team or just attend the event.

Thank you again for all of you.

Brian has exhausted all chemotherapy treatments at this time. He will begin looking at clinical trials at both Hillman Cancer Center and Johns Hopkins. There is a potential for an increased financial burden to the family as they pursue clinical trials with regard to treatment costs and travel expenses. We are hoping to raise money to lesson this burden for Brian, Keary, and their two boys Colin and Adam. Please check out our new long-sleeved t-shirt/hoodie fundraiser and help out if you can!!!!

Thank you to everyone for your continued love and support. Scans continue to show stable tumors. One tumor continues to remain stable on pancreas and one liver lesion continues to get slightly smaller. While this is all that continues to appear on ct scans, my blood tumor marker has steadily risen over the past six months or so. We decided to change chemo therapy so I've been on a new regimen for the past month. However, to further investigate the reason for this rise in tumor marker number, I have a diagnostic laparascopy scheduled. This will allow the surgeon to see if there is anything observable that can't be seen on ct scan.

In the meantime, have been enjoying the summer with family and friends. Again, many thanks!

Sorry so long since last post. My latest scans (end of October) continue to be positive. The pancreas tumor shrunk a little and only one liver lesion is now visible. It is the liver lesion that we attacked with radiation this summer. My doctors believe that the remaining liver lesion has responded to the radiation! I will be getting an extra week off from chemotherapy over Thanksgiving and an extra two weeks off over Christmas. Much to my relief! :) Thank you to everyone for your continued support! Happy Thanksgiving!

Since my last scans in June, I have maintained a "stable" response. No increase or decrease in tumors' size. Because of my good response to chemotherapy, I qualified for radiation treatments this summer. My radiation oncologist was cautiously optimistic about being able to attack the tumor on my pancreas and one of the remaining lesions on my liver (At the start in July 2019, I had a total of 3 liver lesions--one is no longer visible and the other is believed to be dormant. The third lesion is being treated with radiation therapy.) So this summer, my intravenous chemotherapy was paused after my June 23, treatment and then I had 20 radiation treatments in July/August. During radiation I continued chemotherapy via daily pills. Radiation is now complete and I will restart intraveneous chemotherapy this week. Besides some fatigue and minor nausea, I tolerated the radiation well.

My medical oncologist is recommending several more cycles of intravenous chemotherapy and then we'll see where everything stands in a few months.

While maintaining quarantine, I have been walking in the neighborhood and Peters Lake Park (which I just discovered this summer! :) ) and recently was able to do some short biking rides.

Thank you to everyone for your continued love and support! We (my family and I) couldn't do this without you!

Received positive news from recent scans. Cancer antigen bloodwork number dropped again to 109. Was 342 during last scans and started at 7900. Normal is <55. On scans all tumors either stayed the same size or shrunk. One cyst on pancreas shrunk and one of three liver lesions shrunk. Pancreas tumor was unchanged. Thank you to everyone for your continued support. Take care and stay safe!

The fight continues with your continued support! Good news from recent scans! The pancreas tumor itself has gotten smaller for first time. Cysts on pancreas have continued to get smaller (they were showing they were getting smaller on November scans). All 3 liver lesions are smaller (only one was smaller in November). Tumor blood marker number declined again to 342. (Was initially 7900 in July. Normal is <55). I'm tolerating chemo as well as can be expected. I love working when I can. Still doing the things I enjoy doing with family and friends. Again, many thanks to everyone for your help and support!

As you may remember, I had my first scans in early September following my first round of treatment. Those scans revealed a "mixed result" and my oncology team recommended a change in treatment regimen. I'm happy to share that my most recent scans and blood work which I reviewed with my oncologist yesterday have shown a "stable response". So what does that mean?

-My blood tumor marker has continued to decrease (approximately 75% decrease from the original number in July) which is good!

-The tumor in my pancreas has not changed in size but several cystic lesions have decreased in size in and on the pancreas and pancreas tumor.

-One of the lesions on my liver has decreased in size and the others have not changed in size.

-A lymph node we are watching has not increased in size (it increased on September scans)

-The soft tissue infiltration around the pancreas that was seen on September scans is not evident this time.

My oncologist is pleased with this progress and we are continuing with the same treatment for the next two months. I received treatment yesterday following my meeting with my doctor.

I have to admit, it certainly has been a stressful and emotional four months as we all waited to hear news that we are moving in the right direction treatment-wise and that finally occurred yesterday! I want to again thank all of you for your continued love and support! All of you being there for me and my family in so many different ways is helping me to win this battle! Thank you!

September 26, 2019 - Keary was able to attend the Boys Soccer Game "Green-Out" tonight. (Brian was unable to attend and he was still recovering from recent treatement). The support of the Lebo community continues to be amazing! Thank you to the high school boys soccer team and the community soccer program for sponsoring a "Green-Out" tonight! You continue to inspire Brian and his family! :)

September 25, 2019 - Brian had his 2nd round of his new treatment today and all went well.

September 24, 2019 - Near the end of last week, as a precaution, Brian was admitted to the hospital to monitor a fever he developed. Doctors have concluded that it was a side effect of the new chemotherapy treatment and he is doing well. Brian and his family wanted to once again extend their thanks to the North Allegheny school community for their support shown last week and at the Lebo-NA football game.

September 19, 2019 - Brian began his new chemotherapy regimen this week and is so far tolerating it well. He's back to work today after two days out of the office.

September 10, 2019 - Brian has completed his first 2 month cycle of treatment. He continues to feel well. He is working regularly and biking & golfing with friends & family when he is able. Hockey season with the kids is in full swing! Brian, Keary, and our entire family continue to be touched and very appreciative of the outpouring of support. The "Green-Out" at Friday's football game was amazing and the McFeeley and extended family continue to want to express our thanks to the entire Mt. Lebanon community for their help and support. Also, we want to thank the Butler Area School District for their support. It was an awesome night!

Medical Update: Brian & Keary met with his oncologist this week to review recent scans and bloodwork. He has had a mixed response to the chemotherapy. His blood tumor marker number is decreasing (which is what we want to see) and the liver tumors and pancreas tumor have not changed in size over the past two months which is all positive. The scans did show a slight increase in lymph node size and what is called soft tissue infiltration around the pancreas. Brian's medical team recommended a change in chemotherapy drug combination which he will start next week.

Once again, Brian, Keary, and our entire family appreciate the continued well wishes and support.

-Brian, Keary, Colin, Adam, and our Extended Family

August 13th, 2019 - Today is the 3rd treatment. Brian saw his oncologist this morning and she says he is progressing well. He continues to manage the effects well and we are very happy with the care he is getting. He was able to go into work last week and also went biking and golfing. We also enjoyed a nice evening on a friend's boat on the 3 rivers. The boys are doing well and we are all gearing up for the start of school and the new hockey season, while trying to enjoy the last days of summer. As the start of the school year gets closer, we are a little behind in communicating our thanks for all of the kind words, support and gifts that have been sent. Please know that we very much appreciate all that is being sent and done to support Brian and our family. The well wishes and expressions of support really mean a lot to Brian and our family. - Brian, Keary Colin & Adam

July 30th, 2019 - Today is treatment day 2. Brian did well with the first treatment, and we were able to enjoy a relatively "normal" week last week. He was able to work a few days, enjoy Colin's hockey games and go for a few bike rides. Thank you to everyone for their continued generosity, kindness and support. We truly feel that we have an army of friends and family fighting with us. Words cannot express how grateful we are. - Brian, Keary, Colin & Adam

July 16th, 2019 - Brian began chemotherapy treatments that will happen every 2 weeks for 4 treatments, then new scans will happen. He is doing well and, so far, the side effects are manageable. Brian and his family thank everyone for their continued love and support.
