Department of ENGLISH MANIKCHAK COLLEGE

The Department of English Manikchak College was formed in 2015 with pass course in English literature. In 2017 the department started offering English literature Hons. subject as well. The departmental faculty at present offer Hons., Pass, and Compulsory courses on English as per the CBCS Syllabi introduced by University of Gourbanga in 2019-20. The dedication of the students and faculty members have ensured the department’s continued run of prominence within the institution and the end semester examinations conducted by University of Gour Banga.

The faculty members focus on creating an interactive atmosphere in classroom through using ICT and sharing study materials through Whatsapp. Students are encouraged to share their views during the discussion sessions and update faculty members about their subsequent progress on the syllabus. Group activities are recurrently organized by the department to nourish teamwork and collaborative work methods in students. Along with lectures by departmental faculty members; lectures from esteemed faculty members and subject experts from the surrounding colleges and institutions across the country. The department has also organized virtual lectures by international faculty members for familiarizing the students to various aspects of the CBCS syllabus.

Apart from academic activities the department organizes extra-curricular activities in regular intervals. Celebration of Shakespeare’s birthday, discussions on contemporary literature and films are conducted by the department for cultivating the thinking faculty in students. Faculty members of the department function as guides but the motto of the department is to bring out the underlying quality and potential in students. The project works performed by students on annual basis, namely poster presentation and annual wall-magazine issues are prepared by students after initial discussion with faculty members. Additionally, the students are introduced to library working through the department’s individual library which hosts all the texts prescribed in the syllabi. The department looks forward to strengthening the overall output by developing its library and increasing educational tours.
