In 2020, we asked our students what OER meant to them. Here's what they had to say:
Middlesex Community College has been gathering information regarding it's progress toward OER. In an initial survey completed by faculty, it was reported that 20% percent of MCC courses were NoLo. The NoLo designation includes courses with required materials (textbooks, assigned reading, manuals, etc.) costing students nothing (no-cost) or less than $40 (low-cost).
For the following semester (Spring 2020), the data showed that 10% of available course sections could be classified as NoLo and were given the appropriate marking within the Course Catalog so that students could be financially informed as they plan their college experience and pathway toward academic success. This is an excellent start for just setting out on our journey for supporting more students with OER.
