Flags
To reinforce the importance of learning introductory geometry vocabulary and to showcase one way in which geometry is used in real life, students were tasked with creating a flag.
Flags had to follow the design principles of a "Good Flag" based on the readings we did in class. Students also had to be able to document a minimum of 20 geometric features within their design.
Once designs were created students had to scale their diagram up to make a real flag within the required dimension range. This reinforced the study of proportions and similarity which had been taught earlier in the year.
Finally, students reflected on the significance flags have had in history and considered what the modern versions of a flag are today.
