Introduction:

I am Muhammad Bilal Khan from Pakistan. I am academically trained as a roboticist through my BEng, MEng and doctoral training programs. My doctoral studies were focused on industrial robotics. Earlier, I obtained my masters in Mechanical Engineering, where I had the opportunity to develop a ray-inspired soft robot, and my undergraduate degree in Electrical and Electroinc Engineering where i developed a wooden quadrupd robot. My industrial training prepared me to develop control algorithms for industrial robots for quality control tasks. I have also received various trainings in AI/ML related to robot control as well as DL for detecting surface defects.

Broadly, I am highly passionate about using science/robotics to assist humanity for the better life, and am committed to all opportunities of personal and professional growth for impact driven change. I also consider service or volunteering meaningful as well as joyful, so in my free time, I have been teaching/teach graphical programming, science and maths to primary and high school kids. I also have been mentoring some undergrad students for their class projects and graduate school applications.

You can see my educational affiliation history here. Please scroll around other tabs (from top right sub sections on this page) to dig deep into other info that you may find interesting.

Note: I created and started writing this page from 6/02/2017, there would be a lot of posts especially those of past with non periodic timeline manner, but I would try to make it look periodic, wherever I can. This page will serve more to potential audience in academia. I should write another site about topics outside the scope of this webpage.

In other news: Got interviewed by the University of Bradford Alumni Office. You may read here why I want to be a techno-educationist. Bonus: Photo of my old classic? looks in the article :)

Research interests:

In the past few years, I have had the privilege to work with highly interdisciplinary teams of scientists and mentors across the spectrum of STEM to develop/control/design different robots. My most relevant contributions involved:

  1. Development of a quadruped robot

  2. Development of a wheeled robot

  3. Kuka iiwa robot control

  4. Development of a magnetic pipe crawler

  5. Development of an underwater swimmer

My ongoing research interests are:

    • Legged robots (design, motor control, algorithm design, optimization techniques etc)

    • Materials and design approaches for flexible soft robots (Design, material and manufacturing methods, benchmarking etc)

    • Animal behavior mimicking (Behavior identification and development of analogy based models etc)

    • Biomedical applications of biologically inspired robots

    • Educational robots to improve overall learning outcomes of students of different needs/level

    • Social/service robots to improve daily life activities through automation oriented solutions

    • Behavioral studies (More on social sciences line including ethical aspects of topics)

In addition, I also have great interest to learn and contribute in the evolving area of engineering education, where we can use robotics to improve overall involvement of students to the learning process, with the focus on the case studies from the underdeveloped countries.
