Career Goal Narrative
Throughout my life there have been many jobs and fields that have interested me, but overtime that has built up to me wanting to pursue a career as an engineer in motoracing or the Royal Australian Air Force. My father always had the motorsport on the TV when he was able to, and overtime I have started engaging more into motorsport. After researching what careers would interest me, mechanical engineering was a highlight. I was exposed to the inside world of what a military life looks and feels like since the day I was born, and it is something that has gained my interest throughout time. The military is also the reason why I am currently living in the United States, and is something I’m grateful for since I have been given the opportunity to live a whole new life. Videos and ads online have also influenced my decision to want to become an Aeronautical Engineer or Loadmaster in the RAAF. These passions and interests have brought me to the conclusion that these are areas that I would love to work in for the duration of my life.
As of now, I am enrolled in the two-year engineering program at the Dr. James A. Forrest Career and Technology Center which will teach and certify me in many required areas for engineering. So far I haven’t had the opportunity to do any of the programs the engineering course offers me, but I have heard many great things about what I will be doing and I am looking forward to participating in it.
I have engaged in countless extracurricular activities such as school and club sports, a school volunteer group called Mini Vinnies, and school choir which have taught me numerous valuable lessons that I will use everyday such as teamwork to get the task completed, always lending a hand when someone needs it, and always communicate with my peers to make sure the task is done right. Activities outside of school that I have participated in which will help me in my career choice are netball and golf. These two sports keep me fit and helps me improve to get better, faster, and stronger, especially by how much I play/ed these sports on weekends.
Depending on where my interests lies at the moment, I will either enlist in the RAAF or go to a 4-year university in Europe when I graduate from high school. I feel like the military is a big part of why I’m who I am today, and that I want to continue the family run of military personnels. On top of that I strive to become the first female in my family to join the military. My other option to attend a 4-year university in Europe and keep on progressing in the engineering field is also something I want to work in since studying and making an impact in motorsport is something that I would love to do.
After achieving one of my career goals, I want to help protect and serve the community in which I live in since I am always willing to help someone when they are in need. It could also mean that I can help a motorsport team succeed higher in rankings and performance if I end up taking that course in my life. I believe that I will have a positive impact in the world no matter what career I end up pursuing. Whether that is protecting my country from threats and helping allied countries when in need, or contributing with a team to glory in a championship, I believe that I can make a difference in this world.
I have decided that the branch I would like to pursue a career in is the Royal Australian Air Force. Planes have always fascinated me ever since I was young, and having the opportunity to work with or on such machinery is something that I cannot pass. For as long as I was born, my father has served in the RAAF and so I have always been around planes. The earliest memory of when I decided I wanted to be in the RAAF was when I was in Year 6 and was talking about it with my friends during lunch.
The engineering course that I am currently taking is something that I believe will greatly impact my rise through the military, especially since I want to either be an Aeronautical Engineer or Loadmaster. I am also taking classes such as physics and algebra 2, so I can learn as much math as possible and help me throughout my career.
I have done many sports throughout my life such as netball, golf, Australian rules football, swimming, and dance, which will help me get back into shape so I can join the military and meet the physical requirements needed. These sports have also helped me learn how to collaborate with teammates to solve an issue and make sure something is executed flawlessly, communication so I can express my needs and concerns, and how to take into account what others want.
Joining the military will make me feel like I am giving back to the community I live in since people have always supported what I needed at the time. I want to make sure that Australia is a safe place to grow up and live in for future generations, and help those who are caught in disasters, whether that is within the country or overseas.
