Summary: Augment your ATL space to cater to the needs of explorers, tinkerers, innovators, product designers, and budding entrepreneurs.
ATLs are primarily designed keeping the needs of tinkerers in mind. There are a variety of tools, technologies, gadgets, devices, and prototyping resources in the ATL that tinkerers can use. There are even dedicated tinkering stations such as Soldering Station, 3D Printing Station, etc. However, most ATLs do not adequately cater to the needs of beginner-students, budding innovators or entrepreneurs.
In fact, new students at the ATL are often confused and even intimidated by the plethora of tools & resources available at the ATL. They do not know where to start and what to do. They need a dedicated area and set of beginner-friendly tools & resources to help them get started. At the same time, budding innovators need problem-solving as well as designing tools & resources, while budding entrepreneurs need business-related tools and resources.
There is a need to set up dedicated areas or "work stations" within the ATL to cater to the needs of different types of users and equip them with necessary tools & resources.
Set up dedicated "Work Stations" within the ATL for different types of users as follows:
Explorer's Station: A dedicated work station for "beginners" that contains TV sets, tablet computers, voice assistants and multi-media resources using which new students can get familiar with the ATL and explore the possibilities that await them.
Tinkerer's Station(s): A dedicated work station for "tinkerers" that contains technological tools, kits & resources needed by tinkerers to make, break, build, and showcase their creations. There can be more than one Tinkerer's Stations within an ATL, each catering to different tools or technologies.
Innovator's Station: A dedicated work station for "innovators" that contains various problem-solving, designing, modeling, prototyping, wireframing, innovating and IPR related tools, kits, flash cards, and supporting resources - using which ATL students can learn how to innovate and showcase their creations.
Entrepreneur's Station: A dedicated work station for "entrepreneurs" that contains business tools, kits, flash cards, board games and other resources using which ATL students can learn the ropes of entrepreneurship in a practical way and showcase their works.
Having these dedicated work stations provide better clarity for students to utilize the ATL facility to their best advantage.
Here is an example of how an ATL can be augmented by setting up dedicated "work stations" for different user types:
