Shimmering pwer is added and here is the differance!!!
Research:
The main colour of the accordion book is about yellow. Therefore, I have searched lots of things related to yellow such as hope, star. I like the joyful style of yellow in a Japanese rpg game called persona 4 and it inspires me to think of drawing positive stuffs by using yellow.
My research to yellow :
Art from Persona 4
Process:
The theme of the book is hope. It is about a protagonist desire to reach the sky when he is small. After that, he improves himself for reaching his dream while he is growing. Therefore, there are books, things about studying and learning and encouraging wordings to remind him not to give up.
Finally, the audience can see the protagonist reach his dream at the back side. He flies to the space and see lots of beautiful view.
During the making process of accordion book, the biggest problem is how to print the drawing and how to stick on the book. Using traditional way to print a paper will result the change of colour and the texture of paper is not appreciated. To solve the problem, I have asked few friends if there are better way to make this artbook. They recommend me to print the drawing of each page as a sticker. With the help of printing in bannershop, the quality of the sticker is good and the colour remind unchanged and beautiful.
Reflection:
According to other students, the theme of the artwork is a little bit separated. It feels so different after watching one of the scenes in the book. It should be more careful to consider the audience’s feeling and thought when they are watching the artwork.
Exhibition Poster
It is a poster which is designed for the upcoming exhibition ‘Colour From Inner Self to Outer Worlds’.
Research:
As the exhibition is about a lot of colours, I feel wrong when I decide to choose one of the colour to be the major colour. After that, I have thought that the exhibition is about art and technology. Next, I have searched about technology on the Internet and realize many artists use purple in their technology artwork.
Therefore, I figure out purple is a common color to express theme of technology. So, purple is my final decision.
Process:
My art uses purple as major colour to make people think of technology. There is a side face of person which have gearwheels in his brain. For the gearwheels, I think the design is a little bit normal at first. Then, I added style of glitch art om the gearwheels. The style of glitch art is commonly used in recent year. I am inspired by the style of a game called Five Nights at Freddy. The design looks good at last.
For filling the space in the outer part of the poster, I add circle like the thinking bubble to pretend the person is thinking about the idea Inner Self to Outer Worlds.
Reflection:
After watching the artwork from other students, there are a lot of cool designs and I have understood using colour like white and grey can be the method of solving my problem of choosing the major colour. At first, I think those colour is a way too clean but it is more about the design of the artwork. Using white colour will not cause the art look over clean if the artist is able to add more objects and fill the spaces of the art. I think I can do better in my next poster design.
Oceanic Blues
How do you feel and imagine the blue colour?
Blue is the color that connects with our negative emotions, feelings, and surroundings...
Our artwork connects “blue” with ocean from the deepest to shallowest, and the colour from dimmest to brightest. Participants could experience and interact with 4 different levels of “blue” by moving their hands.
Here are the four layers of our work!!!
First layer of Oceanic Blues
Second layer of Oceanic Blues
Third layer of Oceanic Blues
Forth layer of Oceanic Blues
The first level is the deepest ocean and the dimmest of the oceanic blue. It represents the complex emotions from a person, who wants to find their own peace.
The second level is the person who sucked into the abyss, but he feels the warmth on the back, kindness, that tease you to look back and breach upwards.
The third level surrounds by blue particles which represents worries and challenges that you can overcome.
The fourth layer is the shallowest and the brightest. The slow movement of wave implies a calmer mind with less worries.
Process:
I am responsible for the fourth layer of the artwork. The fourth layer is the shallowest and the brightest. It is the costal part of a beach. The interactive parts are the white light particles on the top and the yellow particles at the bottom. The participants can change the movement of particles. The white particles represent the reflection of sun and implies hopes. The yellow particles represent sand and it shows the location where the protagonist is.
Also there a little pink filter make the visual more fancy and the slow movement of wave implies a calmer mind with no worries. He doesn’t feel upset now. This is the process of he becomes happier again after suffering the sadness in the deepest part of the sea.
I have used the footage of Engin Akyurt in 2019 about sea in a platform of Pexels. It is used as a background for the wave movement. During making the project, I meet the problem the particles are too small and many to present in the art and make the visual awful. Therefore, I change the size and number of the particles. Also, I blur the particles which make them does not look rough to solve the problem.
Reflection:
During the exhibition, there are lots of comments about the artwork from visitors. The most memorable comment to me is that one of the visitors said the connection between layers is weak. It is because the project is carried out by four different people, all of us put lots of efforts in improve the visual and we do not communicate well in connecting the theme of our own part. It results visitors think the theme is so different with another after changing the scenes.
It makes me understand making an artwork in team is not just about thinking how to make it beautiful, attractive. It is important to communicate, cooperate with others. Working as a team is about teamwork.
