Inconsistent design can hamper learning, even with good content, and this was a problem we faced at Columbia College. As a team we looked at various solutions, including hiring expensive consultants and outsourcing, but in the end we went with a template I developed to be simple, responsive, and easy for designers to use. All online courses were converted to this template, with positive feedback from students and faculty alike, and it is still the standard at Columbia College today.
My biggest project at Duy Tan University was consulting on and developing a process for course creation. Prior to this, no real course development process existed, and instructors were left to their own devices when creating their online courses. Having seen this situation play out at other institutions, I advised the online education department there on best practices in online teaching, and put together a process they could follow to support consistency and quality in their classes.
I have created numerous video trainings and overviews on Trimble's transportation software solutions. This is a public-facing overview video for our CoPilot by Trimble. This video was produced with Camtasia, Adobe Audition, Adobe Photoshop, and WellSaid AI narration.
This is a faculty profile video I created while working at Columbia College. I was responsible for all aspects of its production, including filming and editing, from start to finish. The video was recorded with a basic DSLR camera and edited with Adobe Premiere Pro and Adobe Audition.
Graphic design applies to many aspects of online learning, and it's an important skill to have for any web based content. Using the Brightspace D2L LMS, each course was given a course banner that greeted learners on the landing page. I designed quite a few of those for Columbia College, as well as doing a bit of graphic design for Duy Tan University. All were created with Adobe Photoshop.
At Duy Tan University I was assigned web design projects for presenting custom software developed at the University. The challenge with these projects was interpreting objectives and feedback in a foreign (to me) workplace. My biggest takeaway from these projects were not technical or design skills, but rather cross-cultural skills. I believe this experience has been important for my own personal and professional development, and has prepared me to work in diverse environments.
