Solving Quadratic Equation by Completing the Square

x2 – 6x + 5 = 0

Move constant term to the right side. x2 – 6x = – 5

Divide the coefficient of x by 2. (– 6) / 2 = – 3.

Square it. (– 3)2 .

Add it on both sides.

x2 – 6x + (–3)2 = – 5 + (–3)2

(x – 3)2 = 4

x – 3 = 2 or x – 3 = – 2

x = 2 + 3 or x = – 2 + 3

x = 5 or x = 1
