IT'S DONE!! I've officially completed my THIRD One Room Challenge and what a journey! The ORC has been such a big part of my home and blog - HALF of my house has been transformed through the design challenge. I'm so proud and grateful to participate! I mean, look at this new bedroom I get to sleep in, now!

The first thing I did was reconfigure the layout. I removed the doorway from the bedroom to the kitchen as a way of getting prepared to remodel the kitchen down the road. Where we lost access to midnight snacks, we gained an infinitely better configuration in the bedroom. I rotated the bed orientation and we finally have equitable space on either side of the bed. I don't know what I was thinking having it face the other way!

When I'm not staring at all of my new favorite furniture pieces and accessories, I can check myself out in this full length mirror from Overstock. In the previous version of our master, whenever I wanted to see my whole outfit, I had to stand on my bed to look at the top part of my pants. Seeing my ankles wasn't an option. The old mirror was nice, but not the most useful for a room where you put clothes on your entire person. This floor length mirror is metal so it has a really chunky and substantial look/feel to it. Are you sensing a theme that I like heavy things (blankets, dressers, hardware, etc.)? There's a handle on top for cuteness, or for a giant to carry it around like a briefcase.

Did you forget I also re-did the backyard for the One Room Challenge?! Once the exterior door was installed I was so excited that I was making statements like, "now we can enjoy the backyard from the master!" but I seemingly forgot our backyard consisted of 40% giant jacuzzi 30% weeds and 30% boring deck. So, what's a girl to do other than re-do the backyard while simultaneously re-doing the bedroom!?

Our master bedroom isn't that big - not small, but not big. There's enough room for a bed and some storage, but no space for a seating area, so venturing to the backyard for additional seating is the perfect way to enjoy our mild San Diego climate conveniently off the master.

Once the door was added, the deck needed to be extended so we could safely exit the master without falling out of the new door. A friend came over to help me build the deck and, boy, was it a doozy! I received a lot of questions about building it but I'm not sure it's useful to share because we tied into the existing composite decking, and built the fastest and cheapest (while still safe) platform to walk out on. Let me know what you want to know, though!

Thank you all for following along on the journey and cheering me on! A big thanks to Linda Weinstein, who organizes the One Room Challenge event twice a year for hundreds of home bloggers - what a feat! She connected me with the folks at so many of my favorite brands that made my master into my dream bedroom. I'd like to give a huge thanks to this project's sponsors: Bellacor, Chairish, Emtek, eSaleRugs, Farrow & Ball, Gray Malin, Hedge House Furniture, House of Antique Hardware, Jill Rosenwald, Kichler, Lamps Plus, Metrie, Minted, Overstock, Pella, Pom Pom at Home, Room & Board, Select Blinds, and Stori Modern. I also need to give a shout out to my friends and family that came over to help caulk, install lighting, build a deck, paint, carry furniture, garden, and bring me. food when I had no time to make dinner!

In this house, we wanted the master bedroom on the main level so that we can grow old and gray here and not worry about the stairs. We also wanted a little separation from the kids rooms (they are downstairs). So this room is right off the living room.

We spend a ton of time out on our deck and we actually made our room a little smaller than our last master bedroom knowing the majority of our time would be spent outside during the warmer months. I have my coffee there in the morning and a glass of wine at night.

My favorite piece in our bedroom is this absolutely gorgeous painting from Melissa Lyons. It just makes me happy every time I walk in here. I have one of her prints in our living room as well (see it here). She is so talented and the sweetest person. I linked her shop below in the source list so you can check out more of her art.

So, so pretty! Every detail is perfect! I love your style and I am trying to figure out how to imitate it in my own house. What would you do if all of the pieces of your bedroom furniture matched? (Do you have a horrified look on your face?)

Extremely restful! Love, love, love everything about this room. I will take full responsibility for you missing the ironing gene. My mom was the master ironer and I am terrible at it! Needless to say the steamer is in my Amazon cart as I type!

Similar to the Fall One Room Challenge, the last few weeks felt like a rollercoaster filled with uncertainty, stress and excitement. The bulk of time spent on this master bedroom transformation consisted of painting the room (3 times), cutting and installing a few hundred feet of Metrie molding, and then painting the entire space (doors, trim, ceiling and walls) another 1-2 coats of paint for good measure.

After mentally battling for weeks on where to hang the House of Hackney Artemis wallpaper (bedroom vs. bathroom), I ultimately decided that the recently remodeled bathroom would evolve as the hidden gem of our home.

Your master bedroom transformation is SO stunning!! I love every detail, the room color, the vintage painting, doorknobs, pillows, its all so gorgeous. The hidden door to your bathroom is so perfect too. The wallpaper and all the details of it just flow so nicely with the room. What a dreamy space to call home!

I always dreamt about having a bedroom with traditional wallpaper. When I found this pattern by Sandberg I was so excited to realize the sample fit perfectly with the color of the existing trim. It was fate!

Did this project take some time and money? Yes, it did. But I truly feel it was worth every penny and then some! I write this to encourage you that it is ok to decorate for YOU!! So what if the door is closed most of the time and not many people see your bedroom?! YOU SEE IT!

OMG Stacey I just love your bedroom? what a warm & relaxing room! Your new wall color is so pretty but it looks real similar to the old one(which was so pretty too! ) I have such a hard time picking paint! But you pick a winner for every room! Love it all?

We lived with it like this for three long years while we focused on renovating other parts of our home but then I joined in the One Room Challenge and during the course of six weeks, our bedroom went through the first of its two transformations. This was the newly made-over look:

Love this space! I love Mid-Century anything, so this is perfect. I did our master bedroom for the ORC too, and I'm sure my husband wishes I had incorporated even more MCM stuff since it's his absolute favorite.

After a three year hunt for the perfect piece to sit between the windows in our bedroom, Honey got me this gorg antique china cabinet for my birthday a few years ago. Honey painted the inside in the wall color to brighten it up.

It's so pretty!! I too have been putting off my master bedroom for quite awhile. It seems to be the last room on our list to tackle haha. However yours looks amazing, and I'm definitely proud of you!! Great job yet again!!

Thank you so much for your comment! I do love how that room turned out so much, and hated to have to un-do it and re-paint it all back when we moved. Hope to have our master looking that good again soon!

Here in Las Vegas homes have awkward nooks and niches. Do the small, seemingly unuseful spaces in your home bother you as much as they bother me? Over the past few years, I have made it my mission to find a purpose for those small spaces. The nook in my master bedroom was the last awkward space I needed to tackle in my house. It came out so good! I transformed the nook into a built-in desk after being inspired by a few BIG TRENDS: charred wood and contrasting baseboard.

When I started thinking of what I wanted our master boudoir to look like, Kendall Simmons and I instantly knew we wanted to go bold in our bedroom. We increased the floor plan of our master by knocking out a covered side porch on our house, which was turned into our new sitting area and I am SO glad we did this. It truly opened up the space, made it tremendously larger AND has given us a place to relax, which has been super useful for both Jeff and I.

I tried to include as many details and sources as I could but let me know if you have other questions! This is the hallway leading to our bedroom. (French doors lead to our backyard.) Come in come in! I always love having you over. :)

I had some space on the left side of the bedroom for a desk/console table. Sometimes after we put the kids in bed Kenny and I head to the bedroom and he watches TV and I do a little work at this desk.

What a beautiful space, Erin! So many favorites in here :) On a random note, I too will be having a surgery this week that will keep me on bed rest for a couple of weeks. Any tips on how to NOT lose your mind while stuck in your bedroom?! LOL

My focus then was mainly painting the room and updating the art and pictures on the wall. My focus this time was getting rid of the clutter and transforming our bedroom from storage center to a cozy haven.

I guess I have been putting off cleaning and decluttering the master bedroom too, mainly because I am just too scared about where to even begin! Your blog has been really inspirational, Lisa, and I will get started on this herculean task ASAP! Time to declutter!

I had been looking for two floor length mirrors to finish off our master bedroom for quite some time. The Pottery Barn Distiller Arched Metal Mirror was the perfect option, but to get two of them (at $799 each) was not going to happen. In the end, I used the Pottery Barn version as my inspiration to create my own mirrors. You can read all about my DIY mirrors on this blog post. 006ab0faaa
