I am a Specialist Registrar in General Surgery with a sub-specialty interest in Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery. My career aim is to be an academic HPB surgeon in a large teaching hospital with an active role in translational research and trainee development.
My research interests are around pancreatology, diagnostics, exocrine-endocrine crosstalk, biomarker discovery and the earlier detection of cancer. I was a CRUK/PCUK-funded Clinical Research Fellow and PhD student with The UK Early Detection Initiative for Pancreatic Cancer at the University of Liverpool where my research focussed on understanding the biology of pancreatic cancer-related diabetes to inform early detection strategies. I am currently a Pancreas 2000 Scholar with the European Pancreatic Club. I aim to consolidate my clinical interests with an international fellowship after CCT.
I have wider professional interests in the interface between medical education and management. I have completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education and undertaken a formal role as an Anatomy Demonstrator at Sheffield Medical School. I currently hold an Honorary Clinical Lecturer position at the University of Manchester where I led the development of an MSc module in Surgical Oncology in the Division of Cancer Sciences. I have explored my interest in educational management further as a Health Education England Fellow in Medical Leadership and Management, culminating in an MSc.
