LED display

This project idea came to my mind when visiting my neighbours. It was a fun board game night until I wanted to know what the time was. When I turned my eyes on the spot where their wall clock used to be, I noticed that it wasn´t there. A sign saying: "The time is not enough to go home" was put instead of the clock. Clever, I thought!

I wanted to build something similar - a clock that is able to violate the basic rules of physics and vary the "speed of time" whenever it is necessary.

I chose to build a generic display capable of showing characters, and made it accessible via local network so that anyone could push messages from their computers or smartphones.

Specification

• Screen is made from WS2812b LED strip (about 10 meters)

• 7*85=595 individual RGB pixels

• Controlled by Raspberry Pi

• Has custom made PCB that contains:

  • Level shifter from 3.3V to 5V for the LED strip data line

  • Real-time clock and battery

  • EEPROM memory

  • Color and temperature sensor

  • Infra Red receiver (not mounted on picture)

  • Infra Red LED (not mounted on picture)
