Kunović, Martina. "Reconfiguring Property Rights, Reshaping Social Relations: Housing Policy in Castro's Cuba, 1959-2017."

This paper traces the evolution of housing policy in Cuba from the 1959 Revolution to present in terms of the changing configurations of property rights contained in landmark pieces of housing legislation. I argue that property should be understood as a set of social relations and examined in terms of which rights and obligations different actors hold vis-á-vis one another. One of my aims is to complicate binary understanding of state vs. private property. Another aim is to trace the changing contours of the relationship of the Cuban state to its citizens during the revolutionary period.
