2024 Jeanie Larson Dobbins Scholarship Winner: Terry Beeman

This will be Terry's first time attending the MARRE conference. She applied for the scholarship because she is passionate about improving her skills as an educator, specifically in the areas of reading and writing. "This conference presents a valuable opportunity to deepen my understanding of innovative strategies that foster literacy development in students of all levels. By attending I hope to gain new insights into effective reading interventions and best practices for increasing student comprehension through written responses - areas that are crucial to my current research and professional goals. Additionally, I am eager to learn from experienced professionals in the field, network with fellow educators, and apply the knowledge gained to enhance my instructional methods. This will allow me to better support my students and colleagues in literacy development, ultimately creating a more impactful and enriching learning environment."

2024 Linda Dorn Scholarship Winner: Melanie Mowery

Melanie is an K-1 Instructional Coach supporting thirty-three classroom teachers and four K-1 special education teachers at her school. She is trained in Literacy Lessons and CIM and works with 2-4 Reading Recovery students each year. She has worked in literacy for 20 years. "I firmly believe that every student, regardless of their initial difficulties, has the potential to succeed with the right guidance. I have witnessed transformative growth and the profound impact targeted literacy support can have on a student's educational path. Attending the conference would significantly enhance my professional development allowing me to stay current with the latest research, methodologies, and best practices in Reading Recovery. This knowledge would not only benefit my students but also the nearly 900 students I support across our building in my role as K-1 Instructional Coach. I would gather valuable information and experiences to share with my colleagues, fostering a culture of continuous improvement among our staff. Sharing Dr. Linda Dorn's passion for the academic success of struggling students, I would be able to immerse myself in an environment dedicated to effective strategies for addressing literacy challenges."
