Pirate Ship Competition

Ahoy me Hearties! The Marra Captain has thrown down the gauntlet for you to bring your best Galleon and prove it’s the fastest in the Marra Seas! We want to see all your deck hands young and old who camps at Marra to design and build a Pirate Ship that will take part in races over the weekend. So get your ship decked out in all its finery ready to do battle.

Cubs will complete one lap of the course

Scouts/Guides and Explorers will complete two laps of the course

Network/Rangers and Adults will complete three laps of the course

The following rules apply:

  • The Pirate Ship must be able to “hold” three section members, who will under their own steam take part in the Pirate ship race.
  • The ship must be able to move by people power. It can be carried or run on wheels or a mix of the two. No motors or engines. It cannot be pushed by others
  • Each ship must hold three members of the section, that means they must be within the ship, not pushing the ship from outside or holding the ship in their arms.
  • The design and art work must be by the young people although adults are allowed to assist where tools are required.
  • A section can enter as many ships as they like.

Registration for the heats will be at the Activity Hub and take place on Saturday with the finals on Sunday before our amazing Pirate Party.

There will be a prize for:

  • The fastest "Ship" around the course per section – Cub, Scout, Explorer & Adult
  • The best design overall

Pirate Gateway Competition

Calling all captains and landlubbers! When your group dock up at Causey Park we want each crew to have a spectacular pirate gateway to welcome folk to their patch. Use your imagination and think outside the box. From a pirate galleon to a magical treasure chest the possibilities are endless!

All structures should be pirate themed and fit within your crew’s allocated camping area (no spilling onto the roadways). Make sure your young people take part in the design and build of the gateway with adults helping with powertools and cutting. Make sure your gateway is secure, self-standing and safe at all times. You’ll also need to take it home and dispose of it sensibly after the event. Our Captains will be on the lookout on the Sunday of camp with a swashbuckling surprise for the best gateway.

Pirate Flag Competition

Avast ye salty sea dawgs! We want you to design and fly your crew’s ensign to let the other crews know who you are and where you home port be.

The following rules apply:

  • The Flag or Pennant must be flown from a broomstick or similar sized pole
  • The Flag or Pennant must be carried on the Sunday by the Section
  • The design and art work must be by the young people although adults are allowed to assist where tools are required.

There will be a prize for:

  • Camping Category – Open to any section who are camping for the full weekend.
  • Sunday Open Day Category – Open to any section attending Sunday as day visitors and are not camping.
